Now I feel compelled to ask: What is it that you're testing? It can't be whether or not we follow directions because i could have told you that we don't without all the silliness. :D - pea♥ fierce as a woozle

Testing images through the FriendFeed API
5 hours ago - Link
There may be several of these as I test the new functions. They will likely be deleted. IMHO -- it's lame to make you go through the API to get pictures to flow through FF with descriptions (like the one you're reading now). Most people can't do what I'm doing to get this to work. - Dave Winer
Well, that was pretty easy. Worked the first time. :-) - Dave Winer
lookin good! - Sean Reiser
I love that picture. Can't wait to see more photos from Dave's system. - Robert Scoble
The FriendFeed API just won gold. THE CROWD GOES WILD!!! - J. D. Ebberly
forget the pic, I wanna know what you're testing, Dave :) - ♫ Rahsheen ™ ★
I think there's a bug, I can't quite see that one guy. - Logical Extremes
Is anyone else confused by this? There are other ways to get images into FriendFeed, with descriptions, without having to use the API. - Mark Trapp
If you mean manually, I get that -- but otherwise, the only way to get an image in with a description is through the API. If there's another way -- tell me now so I can cry over the time I wasted this evening. :-( - Dave Winer
Or what about, while using the Bookmarklet, adding *online* images *other* than those on the current page. Is it already possible and I haven't figured out how? Anyone? - Micah Wittman
Yes, but that's manual. I have a feed -- and it has friends, and this is Friend-Feed. It's about flowing stuff using feeds, it's nice that it can do it manually, and I do a lot of that too, but this automatic stuff -- flowing data from one place to lots of others. Manual we can do. This is the new stuff (yeah new in 1999). - Dave Winer
Do you mean to include the description as the comment? You could auto-send an email using Mail2FF. Subject is the title, any images attached are added, and the body becomes the first comment. With tarpipe, it wouldn't even require creating custom code to send the email. - Mark Trapp
The other way is to put in media:title elements, and if that doesn't have the result you want, go to the friendfeed feedback room and ask them to make it work. They're fast. - Bruce Lewis
Come on now Dave, things have evolved a bit since March '99. - Logical Extremes
I've been asking for it since May, Bruce. They still say someday. - Dave Winer
Mail2FF is awesome.... Mark described it well above. you could automate that way - Susan Beebe (Santa Claus)
Yeah, but Mail2FF doesn't use RSS ;) - Jasmin Patry
The layman's way is to use feedburner and subscribe your mail2ff email to receive the feed by email. I think that would work. - Gez
I still don't understand why this pic and desc is different from any other. What am I missing? Or, rather, what is FF missing? - ♫ Rahsheen ™ ★
Rah, read this: http://bit.ly/RsuQ edit: just saw you in the comments on that post :) FF is not treating RSS equally or rather RSS is not being used properly by all sites and FF caters to the large sites with large user bases. I think the point is that services like FF should by default support RSS fully (with all the attributes) which will level the playing field, then cater to the larger sites (Flickr) who publish RSS in a non default format. - mojay

It's all the megapixels ! - Mo Kargas
The last one I got (SD950) is just a bit too big for me, so I'm planning to get a smaller / less capable one the next time I buy a camera. - Amit Patel
do you like the sd950? i was thinking about buying it. - Jess Lee
The SD950 is fine except that it's slightly too big to fit comfortably into my pocket. I would've been better off with something smaller that I have with me all the time than with the SD950, which I mostly got for the larger sensor size. The one Paul's looking at (SD880) looks nice. - Amit Patel

"I'll look into the <description> element and should have a good ping solution soon. As for MediaRSS, if you include multiple media groups containing thumbnails with width and height small enough to fit multiple images, then they should display horizontally just like Flickr." - Paul Buchheit
So the problem with the <description> tag in RSS feeds is that it generally contains the full or partial content of the blog post. It would be useful to make this content available in friendfeed, but stuffing it into a comment probably isn't the right ui. - Paul Buchheit
So... don't stuff the text into the a comment. Just display the description indented under the title. I would only show the first N characters, and provide a link to read the rest of the text. Might as well use a comment, btw, and truncate. If you want the rest, click the link. The current situation is just wrong for all the reasons I outlined in my post. - Dave Winer
Doesn't that depend on the length of the post? April's blog, for example, generally contains posts with text appropriate for an initial comment. - Bruce Lewis
The problem is that the "description" is not really a description in most cases, it's the content, and automatically stuffing a prefix of all blog posts into the first comment may not be the best experience. I think perhaps the right solution is to provide a "generic rss" service that has options for all this. (and to provide a more elegant way of viewing the feed content inline) I completely agree with your objectives though -- all services should have equal access via feeds. - Paul Buchheit
Would love it if when I include images or videos in my WordPress posts they showed up in FriendFeed. Is there a trick to making that happen? - Patrick Lightbody
We already pick up on MediaRSS tags Patrick. If you do a search, there are several discussions of how to get it working with WordPress. - Paul Buchheit

Twitter CEO: The revenue's coming soon, but I won't tell you how | Webware - CNET

And speaking of expansion, there are several projects on the books. Williams said that the top feature requested on Twitter is grouping, and that it's in the works. This will enable users to segment their Twitter friends into sub-networks to send specific groups certain posts. It will also make Twitter a more useful tool in business. - Dave Winer via Bookmarklet
Those of us on http://www.peoplebrowsr.com already have grouping. It definitely makes Twitter more useful to business. - Robert Scoble
I keep wondering is I should look into peoplebrowsr.. - Dave Winer
Churchill Club podcasts. http://www.churchillclub.org/p... - Dave Winer
Grouping is a feature that's so useful I might even consider paying for it... but when you can already do so for free [currently] with tweetdeck or others, you'd have to wonder about pinning your revenue hopes to it. They'd have to offer a lot more as well - David Miller
Dave: I think you'd find lots of the concepts of PeopleBrowsr interesting. You should watch the video here for a good demo: http://www.kyte.tv/ch/6118-sco... - Robert Scoble
Hey Robert. The guy in the Kyte video is Jodee Rich. Were you in Australia or does he live overseas now? - Barak B
Barak: he visited my house in Half Moon Bay. - Robert Scoble
haha robert i love how you're recording yoru password lol - Stanley Stevens
He knows what is best. Maybe an expansion could make twitter more useful? - Jack
So if grouping becomes reality, does that make apps like Peoplebrowser less appealing (although i realize PB brings more than grouping to the table)? - David Bisset (sn)
PeopleBrowsr is one of the best looking SocNet apps I've seen - highly feature packed, with novel utility...very nice - Susan Beebe (Santa Claus)
