"If you like to read, there is a book called Predictably Irrational that explains why people pay more for Macs. Not only that it explains why people pay more for coffee at Starbucks. They even had an experiment showing that a charging more for aspirin, made the headache disappear faster! Go read it, it's fascinating. People are irrational, so are markets." - Alfredo Octavio
"But, Ubuntu at least, waits until the volume can be unmounted and then unmounts it and tells you so. That's a b ig improvement over the mystery of Macs and Windows that "some" application is using the volume." - Alfredo Octavio
"I think the arguments are more philosophical than practical, and the thing is that there are practical reasons to chose Linux over Mac OS X. Here is just one: Have you ever been unable to eject a drive in Mac OS X because it was "in used"? The great easy of use disappears because Mac OS X won't tell you which application is using it, although it suggest you quit applications. Sometimes you quit all applications and still can't eject the drive properly. In Linux (at least in Ubuntu) you get a rational message that says "The drive is being written to, wait a few seconds" followed by a message that says "the drive has been successfully unmounted" (or words to that effect). A minor point, but it indicates that Linux is getting easier and easier to use, surpassing Mac OS X and Windows in some areas. Clearly, there is more to come, I suggest you change now instead of changing later." - Alfredo Octavio
