@ Bob those of us over 40 can read on the Kindle. Morton, the original will probably go down in price not 2.0 - LPH™
I just love all book DRM systems - they show value of customers in true light: you have NO rights behind walled garden ;) - silpol
My contacts say this is bull. A price cut is coming near the holiday shopping time though. - Piaw Na
@Bob: yes, the Kindle early adopter set seems to be full of folks who need glasses for books or who have arthritis. Not the usual, iPhone toting crowd (who probably fall into Steve Job's "People don't read" demographic) - Piaw Na
@Cartwright --- that screen shot of the Kindle is biased. The Kindle is being set at font size 3 or 4. You can get way more text on the screen that that, if that's your metric for success. - Piaw Na
Don't know why but i just can read anything longer than a page on a screen. I HAVE to have a physical form in my hand, more specifically paper. Any document i need to read, i must take a print; I can't switch to reading my morning newspaper on the web, or a book to the Kindle. Maybe i'm just unfit for a digital world in that sense. - Parth Awasthi
@Parth - did you actually try a Kindle or a Sony reader? I hate reading on screens in general as well. Given the demographic of the early adopter set for this product, I suspect that it's a matter of habit (or maybe you just have to get arthritis first). - Piaw Na
The iPhone is the first device I don't mind reading from on a regular basis. I believe it has a lot to do with the touchscreen. Of course there is not enough real estate for extensive reading. Apple: where's the tablet :) ? - simonpure
Piaw Na: Actually, i do concede to your point. Will try using one to read at least one book and who knows if I can finish one, it just might catch on. I have just been generally averse to reading on a screen but you just convinced me to give it a try. - Parth Awasthi
@tanya No, there's no text to speech convert on the kindle. It does play audible.com books and MP3s though, but not as well as an ipod. - Piaw Na
@Parth: yeah, give it a try. I find the the people who have Kindles love them. Certainly the Kindle has ended up getting me to read about 3X more than I usually do. - Piaw Na
I love my Kindle and use it daily. I'm 43 and when my eyes get tired I just bump the font size up a notch. Still read "real" books too, so it's not an either/or deal. - Jack Baty
I'm a new Kindle convert. Totally ♥ it. Super easy to use and perfect for my totally mobile lifestyle (full time RVer)... only downside is can't get EVDO to work in Alaska... up here for whole summer. So gotta buy online & download w/ USB cable. No biggee. :) - Mari Smith
