Fun part: under the terms of the narcotics contract (and I'm probably the only patient who cares), I'm not allowed to get prescriptions for pain meds from any other doctor. So I'll probably get through the weekend on Advil, Aleve, and Tylenol. - Ladybug Heather
The "narcotics contract"? Who is this contract between and why? - Brian Sullivan
It's between me and my doc at the pain management clinic. I'm a chronic pain patient, and it's to protect the doctors there in case any of the patients illegally abuse their prescription narcotics. Is a fear thing. And probably an insurance thing, too. A lot of docs have gotten out of specializing in pain because of the risk of losing licensing thanks to one rotten patient. - Ladybug Heather
That said, I signed the contract, and I'm going to live up to it. The doc at that practice is doing a better job helping me manage the chronic condition than any other. She's really become my primary doc these days, and is the hub for all my various referrals to specialists. - Ladybug Heather
Protecting the doctor? I guess .. seems a bit reversed from what it should be though - Brian Sullivan
Hmmmm... Pain management without narcotics... I recommend swishing with an Orajel solution several times a day. - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
A client of mine with a similar contract called the pain management clinic and was able to get the doctor there to prescribe something to help with dental pain. The pain doc just verified with the dentist what was going on and then called in a prescription for a 5-day supply of what pain med they approved. Maybe try that? - Rochelle
Yup, Rochelle - I'm going to have the oral surgeon call over there tomorrow. (They're good at returning patient calls... within 48 hours.) - Ladybug Heather

rumors out today about the Fed taking the Fed Funds rate to 0. 50 b.p cut in Dec. 50 b.p. cut in Jan. I agree with Mark, inflation remains one of my biggest long term concerns. The U.S. can just keep printing dollars but it's fiat currency. It's illogical that we should be able to just keep printing more and more dollars and pretending that they are worth just as much in order to dig ourselves out of this hole. - Thomas Hawk
The Fed is seeing deflation as the next trend, but they are very short-sighted right now. They're running out of fingers to plug the leaks in the dike. They'll over compensate... as usual. Actually devaluing the dollar helps us with debt repayment. - Mark VandenBerg

The problem isn't necessarily the hardware, but the stupid DRM embedded in the video content purchased through iTunes. A Federal bailout for Vegas casinos? | The Movable Buffet | Los Angeles Times

"Sometimes you toss out an idea at a meeting as a joke or because you think it sounds clever at the time. Then you have to write a story. At yesterday's editorial meeting for Las Vegas Weekly, I suggested, somewhat facetiously, that we do a story on how the federal government should come in as the cavalry to bail out Las Vegas' casino companies. After all, I argued, aren't union jobs at stake? And doesn't the entire Las Vegas (and Nevada) economy depend on the resorts as surely as Detroit does the auto industry? The ripple effect of the casinos' financial problems could be staggering. They already are if you are one of the many locals among the layoffs done by every resort company in town." - Abby Martin via Bookmarklet

“The real innovations are in the concepts, the ideas. Not in the techniques.”
Wednesday at 3:04 pm - via NoiseRiver - Link
Innovation by definition requires good ideas *and* implementation. One without the other is a big fail. - Brian Sullivan
Totally agree Brian, but innovators are those who design, the others (eventually the same guys) who implement are technicians. I define myself humbly as a two-faced guy. The innovator in me challenges the engineer I am and it's fun to watch myself -smiling :) - directeur via NoiseRiver
I guess you don't totally agree -- since innovation requires ideas and implementation... innovators either do both or both idea people and implementation people are innovators. - Brian Sullivan
There are the innovators, the people that come up with the great ideas and there are the implementers, the people that put the great ideas to work and then there are the integrators, the people that put the great ideas to work within existing product frameworks. Rarely is one person all three. For instance, Apple is an integrator. They are great at building existing ideas into well designed products in a very well integrated way. They are rarely the guys who come up with the innovative ideas. - Alex Scoble CISSP
Brian, I understand your logic. Implementers often don't need to bring new ideas to make inovator's ideas real. Sure, they have a lot of merit, but often they use "techniques" to implement ideas. Now, inventing a new technique to ease the implementation *is* innovation. - directeur via NoiseRiver
Alex, your classification sounds in fact good! There's also "integrators". I do agree! - directeur via NoiseRiver
