“I have the opportunity to do some contract work (taking raw data and giving them back a nice report in the form of a PDF). It should only take about two weeks tops, but I have no idea what to charge. Any suggestions?”

Charge hourly, not just a price for the whole project, in case it takes longer than you anticipate. - Trish R
Cool, they accepted it. I go to their site to get the data in the morning. Absolute best case, I might be done by the weekend. Worst case, two weeks. Either way, it is money in time for the holidays. - Derek Coward
I make pretty much all of my money on hourly consulting. I have a "center" rate of $75/hr. Then, depending on how few or how many hours you are buying from me, the rate adjusts. Short gigs (days or weeks), it's up over $100/hr. If you buy 2000+ hours (a fulltime year) at a time, it comes down a little bit (though not as much as it goes up for less). If you want 16 hours and it's going to end up being my entire weekend, it's $200/hr. - J Wynia
