check out the charts! uh-oh. :( even more, where was the Teutonic gravitas when banks levered up to over over 50x! that's un-frickin-believable, and, by itself, honestly, might be enough to sink the euro project. the Krauts may regret their earlier "it's an American thing" and "no way we go Euro-wide with this as the Spaniards and Italians will bleed us dry" stances. And we will all get to regret it with them. Hanging together, hanging separately, but certainly we'll all be hanging. no doubt about that. - Dan Kearns

U know im no Republican, and think the greedy have been as destructive to American virtue as the libertine, but the one thing I do like is that the GOP does what Brooks is talking about. And the reason I like it is that the educated class fucked us. Perhaps irredeemably. Some sharp words are only to be expected from the people whose prosperity and culture (taking generations to build) was destroyed for a few measly dollars (to buy a hedge fund managers wife some more jewelry and spa treatments?) and in the name of "follow your bliss" (or "'kids?' what are those?"). And the whole time being told that it was for the best and that arguing otherwise was uniformed, uneducated, unsophisticated and just a sign of racism, sexism, homophobia, hatred of Mother Earth, irrationalism, and just the plain ole bad manners of a bunch of hicks and... - Dan Kearns
