DENVER (AP) - John McCain is airing a one-evening-only ad with a simple message for Barack Obama: "Job well done." The ad coincides with Obama's nomination acceptance speech. McCain congratulates Obama for his nomination. McCain recognizes the symbolism of a black man accepting the nomination on the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. The ad will run Thursday on national cable television before and after Obama's address. McCain says: "Senator Obama, this is truly a good day for America. Too often the achievements of our opponents go unnoticed. So I wanted to stop and say, congratulations. How perfect that your nomination would come on this historic day. Tomorrow, we'll be back at it. But tonight Senator, job well done." - Jeff Quinton
Interesting. Would have been classier if there wasn't a press release bragging about it beforehand. - Trish R
+1 Trish - cjmart
Good for McCain - Josh Haley
Classy. Obama should reciprocate. McCain is not evil; he is not Rove. - dkb
Nothing classy about it. It is completely about getting people like you to believe he is classy to offset all of his scumbag campaign tactics. That is the only motive. He hopes later people will say "well, he did say congrats to Obama". He's trying to buy back some of his old brand because his attacks have driven his negatives. Don't be a sucker! - Brad Nickel
Fortunately, I have free will and am not a sucker. His motive may be duplicitous but I call each move as I see it. Absolutism is dangerous, wouldn't you agree? - dkb
I do agree absolutism is dangerous, but I also know the motive for this and there is nothing of value behind it. He has decided to operate exactly like Rove and that it is OK for this campaign, because he wants to win more than he wants to maintain class and decorum and so this is hypocritical pandering with a motive of deception. Period. Not sure how it could be seen as anything else... - Brad Nickel
Saying don't be sucker implies I am calling you a sucker and apologize. I should have used a less negative term. - Brad Nickel
@dkb - You posted this link today that deals with the tactics he is using. http://www.time.com/time/polit... I think it deals with exactly what we are discussing. - Brad Nickel
I just saw the ad on MSNBC. This is totally a crafted campaign move to get a mention on an important night for Democrats. - Trish R
Nothing more than trying to win over some Dem. votes by being a nice guy. No one likes a brown noser. - ::Kristen::
@Brad - Fair comment, no harm no foul. - dkb
