"Nevada Republican Party officials appointed a slate of delegates Friday evening to September's Republican national convention after the party failed to elect delegates at its state convention in April." Another moment of "who needs democracy" by the GOP..... So don't let that big McCain contingent from Nevada at the GOP convention fool you.. McCain only had 2% of the primary vote here... - Chris Reed via Bookmarklet
I hardly think delegates count as democracy. The candidates are the people that accumulated the most delegates via popular vote, and that's as it should be. In fact, delegates (the democratic superdelegates) looked for a while like they were poised to act undemocratically, and give the Dem nomination to Clinton, despite the fact that Obama was the one winning the actual elections. As awesome as it is that you're a delegate, the conventions ultimately are -- and should be -- nothing more than tv shows. - j1m
They can be a venue for protests if the public feels the party is very out of touch with its base. But yeah, dog and pony show. - ⓞnor
