I think that games on the iphone will make inroads in lot of peoples lifes. But to shake up the space occupied by Nintendo DS is another thing. I find it difficult to believe that the touch screen will replace the 8 buttons typical for a handheld game console. Secondly, Apple lacks a vast stock of wonderfull games that Nintendo has (and Sony PSP as well for that matter). I guess iphone games will level the mobile game field of java games on the GSM triving on the succes of the iphone. The days of the Nokia NGage and alikes are counted. - Lode Nachtergaele
Macworld seems to think the same: http://www.macworld.com/articl... - Lode Nachtergaele
the thread continues at Slashdot: "iPhone's Game Potential As a Threat to Java Phone Games" http://mobile.slashdot.org/art... I agree that Iphone gaming potential lies in certain class of games. Think monkeyball and RTS games. - Lode Nachtergaele
I agree with you. A 300+ USD handheld device that is only available with a phone contract and can only offer a very limited library of titles is not going to dethrone either DS or PSP. No doubt this space will remain interesting, but the first iteration of "better" cell phone gaming is not a direct challenge for handheld game consoles. - Mustafa K. Isik
Its all a matter of marketing. If Apple AND the games companies actually market it as a game machine, then it should be able to take a nice chunk out of the handheld space. And you don't need a contract for an iPod Touch. - Josh R
