“Hi! I'd like to suggest a change to the formatting of comments on posts: The commenter's name should go first, followed by what they say. As is, it's difficult to read, having to skip to the end of the line, and then back to the front to read the comment.”

For example, try to read this thread: http://friendfeed.com/e/223b7e... It's like reading a play where you don't know who is speaking the lines until after you are done reading them. - Mason Lee
That's an excellent idea, and can you make the "You" stand out more. Threads are getting longer and it can be difficult to find out where you left a conversation. - Andy Murdoch
Good idea, Andy. The other person, besides the "You", who might should stand out more is the original poster, when they comment on their own posts. Perhaps just bold text or dark blue link the "You" and the poster. - Mason Lee
interesting .. i am more interested in the ideas than in the who - Gregory Lent
Interestingly enough, people who comment in a right to left language already have this happen =) - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
Great idea, anyone want to notify Paul and Brett about this? It makes way more sense for the persons name to me at the beginning, 99% of all chat formats are that way for a logical reason, readability. - Kyle Weller
I would recommend a step further. There can be a reply link so next to each comment. That link can prefixes the comment box with that person's name in a standard way in the comment thread. FF then can link your reply to that person formally while maintaining the association with that comment thread. Finally, it can show in both their streams. No ambiguity on who is responding to who or how people do it. - Rolf Schewe
Kyle, do Paul and Brett have to be "notified," as you suggest, or will they search through here and read all these? - Mason Lee
All of us at FriendFeed read this room regularly. Thanks for the suggestion. We'll definitely think look into it! :) - Ana
If I were King of FriendFeed I would keep the names at the end but definitely shade the comments by You and the original poster. - Daniel J. Pritchett
To go a step farther, perhaps comment format should be configurable in your account settings. Give the user the option of two or more formats, or a template-style way to create a custom format. - John Craft
Aeschylus set the precedent in 450 B.C.: Speaker's name goes first. - Mason Lee
