Stretching before running has not been shown to be effective in preventing injury. Stretching afterwards may be beneficial. But a specific plan for each individual is what will work best. These two proposed studies have significant design flaws. A homogeneous population group with similar training methods and abilities would work best. Having one study made up of athletes from different sports from soccer to running to perhaps american football and basketball will essentially be devoid of value. - Steve P
Stretching before running has not been shown to be effective in preventing injury. One of these two studies will again look at that issue. Stretching afterwards may be beneficial. But a specific plan for each individual involving a careful warm up, incremental training, and strengthening in addition to stretching, is what will likely work best. The second proposed study has what I consider to be a significant design flaw. I believe that a homogeneous population group with similar training methods and abilities would work be best studied. Having one study made up of athletes from different sports from soccer to running, walking and swimming, (a completely non-weightbearing exercise) will, I feel, be essentially be devoid of value. - Steve P
