Many people my age dismiss social networks and the friendships people have on those networks as a waste of time and shallow. I think that they totally missing the point - and creating another class of ludites that will be laughed at in a few decades. - Jonathon D. Colman

Sometimes (very often, in my case) you'd like a web site or service to cut through the crap and just keep it simple, right? Well, every now and then a service that's really easy to use ends up in our mailbox, and it's a shame not to share them. These sites have no extra annoyances that defer from their purpose; it really doesn't get any simpler than this. - Jonathon D. Colman

The backbone of this site is the belief in knowledge sharing. So many companies and individuals are using the tools and techniques of web 2.0 and social media to enrich their lives and further their corporate missions. Non Profit organizations are now beginning to get involved in this arena as well, asking questions, attending events, and trying out several platforms. Now is the time to really grow - build a strategy to implement tactics necessary to succeed in this brave new online world. - Jonathon D. Colman

In a way I think it is warranted. She makes some very good points, and she follows up with an action plan, which I think makes the overall post quite positive. - Laura Norvig

A thoughtful write-up of why the Republicans deserved to lose on Election Day, written by and for Republicans. As a progressive, I really want a smart, effective opposition party to help encourage transparency and creative solutions, not an opposition held hostage by demagogues and that aspires to dumb down the public debate. - Jonathon D. Processing of coffee is the method converting the raw fruit (cherry) of the coffee plant into the commodity green coffee. The cherry has the fruit or pulp removed leaving the seed or bean which is then dried. While all green coffee is processed, the method that is used varies and can have a significant effect on the flavor of roasted and brewed coffee. - Jonathon D. Colman

We source our green beans from the best Organic, Fair Trade coffees grown around the world. Then to ensure a roast profile that suits each coffee's character, we spend time with each lot of coffee determining degree of roast. Under-roast and the resulting cup will taste sharp and sour. Over-roast and coffees of different origins lose their individual characters and become dull and burnt. - Jonathon D. Colman

Barack Obama raised half a billion dollars online in his 21-month campaign for the White House, dramatically ushering in a new digital era in presidential fundraising. In an exclusive interview with The Post, members of the vaunted Triple O, Obama's online operation, broke down the numbers: 3 million donors made a total of 6.5 million donations online adding up to more than $500 million. Of those 6.5 million donations, 6 million were in increments of $100 or less. The average online donation was $80, and the average Obama donor gave more than once. - Jonathon D. Colman

Yes, please stay! I don't think friendfeed rooms need much admin - just someone to keep an eye out for spam or anything wildly inappropriate, which has never happened here as far as I can tell. - Laura Norvig

I've been thinking a lot about social search for a while. And although there's likely to be a lot of worrying and fear-mongering about it in our industry (and others), overall I think that it's a really good thing. As presented here, social search helps our causes' best supporters create search structures that aid them in returning to our web sites. - Jonathon D. Colman
Remember that search is, essentially *already* influenced by social actions. As web managers, we all ascribe credibility and relevancy to resources online by linking to them -- and search engines take note of those actions when they rank sites. - Jonathon D. Colman

There is no arguing that YouTube is the most popular video sharing site out there, but that isn't to say that there aren't things about it that annoy users. With that said, there are a wide array of plugins for Firefox to make the YouTube user experience that much better. Here are over 20 that will let you save your favorite videos before they disappear, stop them from autoplaying when you come to a page, and more. - Jonathon D. Colman
