Ummm... which debate were you watching. Or did you take a hit of acid first. She recited every word she said from a script for half of the debate. - Stephan Miller
Did anyone else notice the fact she was petrified when she started, and probably just shy of tears? - Jaemi Kehoe
Loren: Palin showed up, finally. She didn't win the debate, BUT she proved that she was capable of answering questions. I wasn't personally impressed by her answers, but she definetly wasn't giving Katie Couric answers. If the bar to winning for Palin was to show that she wasn't clueless, then perhaps she won. But from an analytical standpoint she didn't win based on her responses, in my opinion. - Jim McCusker
Sir you're missing, at least, one word or more likely two... Add a "not" to your send. - Prolific Programmer
@Jim 1) she had cue cards 2) she clearly read from them, as there were several phrases repeated multiple times 3) the moderator let her off easy 4) so did Biden 5) most importantly - don't you want MORE in your elected officials than "capable of answering questions"??!?!?! - Jeremy Toeman
@Jeremy - I agree. I totally saw that she was reading some kind of cue cards..although we'll know for sure when the photographs are published tomorrow (that's what the black window was behind the VP candidates). If you READ my comments you'll clearly see that I thought Biden won. - Jim McCusker
@Jim ah, there it is at the end - sorry about that! - Jeremy Toeman
What debate were you watching. She did better then most thought but she only answered one question, appeared nervous most of the time, spewed a large amount of BS, need I go on? - Mathew Ballard
@Jeremy - Read again... I gave the win in my 2nd sentence. Sorry... I'm fired up... people just hear (and read) what they want to I guess.... - Jim McCusker
@Loren - I was watching the debate in HD... she was definitely reading SOMETHING. maybe notes.. the photographers behind them will show the truth tomorrow if she had cue cards. But you can not say for sure that she didn't have cue cards. It simply looked like she was reading from something. I personally never saw her writing anything down.. but I'll go back on my TiVo to verify. Just don't be too difinitive until you know for sure. - Jim McCusker
Thankfully not everyone in America is a puppet. Palin won the puppet vote, I think is what Loren Feldman is saying. - Robert Scoble
She doesn't need to read anything. She was coached for days. Anyone can memorize. Even someone who replaces you with ya'. - Stephan Miller
Well then it's fair. She was coached for days, and he's been coached by insider politics for decades. - Ed Shaz/NextInstinct
I don't know if I'd go with brilliant. How many times did she say 'nucular'? - Aaron Krug
@all: Read all your comments to Loren's assertion, and none of them even try to aggressively turn back the tide of the assertion, you had your chance, times up, so it looks like she won. who'dathunkit? thanks for voting. - Morgan Warstler
@Stephan - I have it Tivo'd and she definitely was reading from something for some of her responses. Eyes lowered, moving left to right...clearly reading something. - Jim McCusker
@Morgan America has made it's choice. It likes stupid and phrases like "dog gone it". Yes, I must move away from Idiocracy. Our education system shows it. Happy in stupidity. What bliss. - Stephan Miller
@Stephan, glad you finally found some happiness. - Morgan Warstler
“There are no cue cards at debates. She was looking right into your eyes and your not used to it. Not since JFK has their been since a compelling performance. She rocked.” - loren feldman
The polls I've seen so far say Biden won. So, Loren again proves he's an expert on puppet feelings, not those of real America. - Robert Scoble
Performance is right, why couldn't she answer the questions offered by the moderator but instead brought up her own topic. Shows to me she was only prepared to answer her bulleted list rather than engage in a debate, the reason for being there - Bryan
I'm thinking Biden walked off the stage and chugged bottle of scotch. He didn't even know what hit him. - Peter Simard
puppet feelings? OMG that was funny! - Susan Beebe
Loren - Do I need to clip the video where she was clearly reading something for you to believe me? Seriously, try to take your partisan hat off and look at this objectively - Jim McCusker
Yes, she was reading something. Her own hand written notes that she took during the debate! They all have paper and pen in front of them. It's always been that way. - Dawn
“Who won tonight's debate? Barack Obama. Palin did much better than anyone was expecting, but it wasn't enough to make many people vote for McCain because Biden -- at worst -- tied her (and I think Biden beat her pretty handily). Mona, you're wrong. This was a great debate.”
might have one the debate in the opinion of the friendfeed audience. not sure about the opinion of the rest of the united states. hmmm... - Jeff Sandquist
I wish there was more structure to the debate, there were many times she didn't answer the question given, instead would talk about some other issue, Biden would respond to the question AND comment on Palin's new choice of topic - Bryan
Jeff: she won CNN's focus group. How's Fox's focus group dealing? :-) - Robert Scoble
Agreed, it was a great debate. Biden kicked ass on the maverick topic. - Aaron Krug
My personal opinion = Biden won. But Palin was more 'real' as a CNN panelist said. It's the focus groups that matter. Not what the experts say. - Mona N.
Biden was an obvious win for me. Palin obviously avoided three major questions that she couldn't answer, diverting to talking points she had obviously been trained in. With one exception, Biden directly tackled each question. She is out of her league. Biden did much better than I expected. Palin survived, but I hardly think she did well. Tossing out "soccer moms" twice isn't what I call a connection. - Squirrel Girl
Scoble, shit like this makes me question tech stuff you are worth talking about. Save your cred. - Morgan Warstler
She IS giving a speech, at least on CNN.com - Shawn Farner
Palin was coached very well; it's when she's not being coached that I fear her. She's got a lot of facts, but there's a difference between knowledge & understanding. Biden showed his normal self, maybe with a bit more personality, and he kept his cool which helped him. - clarke thomas

People - it's not about polls or what the experts say. It's what the GENERAL PUBLIC thinks. - Mona N.
The debate was horrible from Palin. No substance. No details. The only person that actually debated and provided value to America tonight was Joe Biden. I dare a Republican to tell me exactly where I am wrong. She provided more distilled dishonest bugglegum BS. She was good at it and people will buy it that want to buy it, but she did nothing for McCain or the country! - Brad Nickel
Mona, I saw why you said it. I agree it's what the public thinks. Was just wondering why you were flipping sides. Nothing wrong with being undecided. - Jennifer Leggio
I think it went better for both candidates than any one could have hoped. That being said did either of them actually answer a question? - J. Abdul-Qahhar
I agree Obama won because Biden got more effective shots on McCain than Palin did on Obama. Not buying the Palin is more real crap though; the folksy homey stuff isn't anything like normal people in my circle of influence. Maybe in Kansas or Alaska, but not in science or industry. Yuk. - Sally Church
It wasn't even close. Biden was direct and acted the leader. Palin rambled. Seemed out of touch. - Ben
I think Jack Layton won. Followed closely by Elizabeth May and Gilles Duceppe. Dion just beat out Harper for last spot. Whoops sorry. Wrong country :) - Andrew Smith
She won the 28-ers, but they were not going anywhere anyway. I watched the lines on the bottom of the screen on CNN and Biden killed her with the focus group, especially with women. I think the debate reinforced that she is not ready - she really needed to dazzle with knowledge and sophistication to eradicate the notions she is an idiot that everyone got from the Couric interviews. Just not making a gaffe was not enough for her to sway anyone that she is actually not ignorant - she HAD to do more and she couldn't. - Bora Zivkovic
Palin won the public, and that's why Palin won. I never said I agreed or disagreed with it, Jennifer. :) - Mona N.
I predict we will never hear the word Maverick again. She used it several times and each time the lines dipped sharply. The GOPnicks will notice this and tell everyone not to use the word any more as it has a negative effect. Especially after Biden destroyed the idea in what was probably the most powerful tirade of the night. - Bora Zivkovic
Palin was focused on not losing while Biden was focused on winning; For the same reason race car drivers focus on coming out of a turn (where they plan to go) as opposed to where they fear they might go (the wall)... - Tim FitzGerald
@Andrew, that's not a country. that's our 51 state/territory. - Morgan Warstler
Mona: I've seen a couple of polls so far and both said Biden won by a big margin. So did CNN's focus group. So, where you getting your facts? - Robert Scoble
I agree Robert. Neither articulated anything new or provided any clarity on positions, though both performed better than I expected, with no major screwups on either side. I give Palin negative marks for not sticking to the questions, though kudos to her for being able to make every issue about energy or mavericism. Just enough to count, Biden was on the attack, but boy oh boy did he have a lot of opportunity, so he wins the debate for Obama due to overall self-control. - Shout out 2Jody
Palin came out of the idiot closet and into the average American mom stage. Still not presidential worthy, but I don't think she's stupid any more. In that way she won - but that's not really saying much. It was an entertaining debate. - Emotion Tad
I actually thought it was a good debate and enjoyed it. - Geoff Schultz
Mona - I'm with Robert on this one. All the polls point to Biden. - Jennifer Leggio
I agree with Tad. There were no expectations of Palin, so she would have had to stand there and not speak to have considered it a loss for her. - Trish R
I agree Bora, Biden tore up the term "Maverick". - Walter Jessen
There were no "no" expectations. The expectations were that she is ignorant. She had to give a friggin' lecture on economics and foreign policy to change that perception - something she was unable to do. The perception thus remains that she is unready. - Bora Zivkovic
Sally, respectfully I would have to disagree. She was well-coached on attacking Obama through previous statements and positions stated by Biden, and got in quite a few zingers. I thought Biden passed up a couple of opportunities to lay it on McCain. - Shout out 2Jody
There are no "winners." Plus it doesn't matter because we have 10 minute attention spans in this country. In three days no one will remember a thing about it. After next Tuesday's debate that'll be doubly true. - Sean Sharp
She proved that under lockup, she does as she's told and memorizes well. - Trish R
Good Biden strategy - several times he tied McCain not to Bush but to Cheney, thus trying to reduce the 28-ers down to 13-ers (or whatever is Cheney's popularity status right now).. - Bora Zivkovic
Thank god! The official numbers are out and Biden won. I was starting to get REALLY worried listening to the analysts. (I'm streaming and cross checking with various news sites. Not watching it on TV) - Mona N.
Biden definitely won. Palin needs to be booed off the stage...what a joke - Susan Beebe
Can you imagine Palin as president if something happens to McCain? - Michael Krigsman
yep, and it scares the livin' daylights out of me! - Susan Beebe
I can't imagine a single set of criteria, shared by any group of adults, by which you could say that Palin even competed for a win in this debate. - Christopher Galtenberg
As John McCain didn't say: The fundamentals of the election have not changed. The past 2 weeks have irrevocably changed the dynamics of this race and, unless something unexpected happens, Obama is now the prohibitive favorite. - JD Lasica
two boring losers without a clue about the global world - Gregory Lent
Correction: He did not mention how his deregulation policies made massive loan fraud possible. - Paul "Maverick" Denlinger
He tried to make himself look like a victim just like everyone else, when his policies have screwed so many middle-class Americans. - Paul "Maverick" Denlinger
Yes, I liked the conciseness of it. cohesive narrative of the problem and why the solution needs to be supported. - Melanie Reed
this is like the financial version of the dotcom bust, but at least 5x worse - imabonehead
Saw it tonight. Good ad. Look, I do actual stuff on a PC. Apple made it seem like you couldn't open a program without Vista crashing. Ridiculous. - Eric @ CS Techcast
I like these news ads, but I also liked the Gates/Seinfeld ads. The I'm a PC ads really have a message though. - David Ward
Awesome awesome awesome ads. The mac ads won't be that funny anymore. I'm a mac and a pc :) - Metta (Kamath)
Last time I used Windows, that's how it felt. If I installed the wrong app, it would bork my registry and force me to reinstall the whole os. I hear XP is not as bad as that anymore, but first impressions can be scarring. - Victor Ganata
Now, aren't Macs really PC's since they're running Intel chips, just without Windows?!?! - David Ward
These ads are the natural follow on from the Seinfeld ads, so I wonder where they were heading. These new ads are a good start but I think they need to go further - we know lots of people use them, they are the number 1 operating system in the world. What we need to know is why we should switch/not switch. - CJPhoto
Well, uh, PC stands for personal computer. My Commodore 64 was considered a PC in its day and age, as was my school's Apple IIe. So yeah, I'd say a Mac was a PC as well, but not necessarily because it uses x86 tech. - Victor Ganata
an advert is not going to make decide to switch or not switch. waste of money microsoft. spend some of this wasted money on fixing more bugs. - Joe Breen
i can hear the meeting now ... hey, you know that dancing guy, that went around the world? let's do something like that, only we'll have a bunch of people talk about a pc, like, you know, show that everybody uses it. cool, eh? that should got the yokels talking. - Gregory Lent
I was in the minority appreciating the last set. But these are pretty compelling. - Chris Baskind
I liked the last ads and I think these are dreaful. What's more they feel so patronising, like some kind of Government ad that makes its obvious point in a silly, clunky 'inclusive' isn't this clever way - PaulJohnson
Absolutely genius. This is so true, and hits the point. - Ryo
Microsoft have done a really good job with these ads... trying to break away from "that" stereotype and not really going head on with the Apple ads - James Cooper
Really? You like that? What about a better product? Something with WOW factor? - Christopher Welle
I'm a Mac fan, but this ad is actually pretty good. Saw it on TV last night. Was impressed. - Kate
2 more on the site now. And they're really good. - steplow is Steve
These are pretty good, I like them. Nice to see a graffiti artist in there :) - Thomas Hawk
I was sort of disappointed. It definitely has a clearer message, but I'm still waiting for them to show me: a) why I should love PCs or b) why I WILL love PCs ... not why I have to use PCs. - Tim Hoeck
1st I'm a 'both' but... Where is the one "I'm PC and I just use it for spreadsheets" or "I'm a PC and I use it to send emails to my grandkids" or "I'm a PC and I play videogames"... The Mac ads worked because they talked to how I use the computer, not how others do... Interesting start though :) - John Worthington
The show a little imagination. I liked Seinfeld including the extended version. Will we get the directors cut and unrated versions soon? - Michael VanDervort
These aren't great, but they are by far better than the other ads. - Bryan
Great Ad... except my Windows doesn't boot any faster or run any more reliably. This warm and fuzzy won't last. You know, You can put lipstick on a pig... - Phil Yanov
night and day. gates/seinfeld = disaster. "i'm a pc" = almost good, suprisingly - cjmart
Excellent. Making Mac look mean for saying the rest of us (most of the world) aren't cool. Good marketing can make anything cool. The election has shown us that. - Roadgoer
not a bad ad for a flexible "it's OK to be just OK" hardware platform, but what does it have to do with Microsoft? Nothing. Fail. The "I am GNU/Linux" comment makes a good point, too. - Kevin Williams
good point regarding the elections. seems everyone is concerned with how well an "entity" presents itself rather than what it actually does. i could give a shit less how awesome any mac or pc ad is or how well obama speaks. just let me compute and fix the economy. - Todd Kitta
via twhirl
I refuse to accept the definition that a PC specifies only Windows/Intel machines. I can't believe Microsoft bought Apple's lie. - Victor Ganata
Heh there's NOTHING TO DO HERE, so beer/vodka runs seem to be the Thing To Do. Well that, and make meth. And naw, this was the 7-11 not the usual liquor store-- the clerk runnin that place ain't someone you wanna eff with. - Eric Rice
The whole "file synchronization is just the tip of the Live Mesh iceberg" thing is getting old. Until the 'softies ship something that isn't file synchronization, the Live Mesh iceberg is just an ice cube. - Pat Rice
This would sound less like crap if you weren't the sharepoint product manager. Meaningless fanboy talk sounds pretty shrill from a corporate shill. - Kevin Goldsmith
via twhirl
You'll see a bit more than "just file sync" within the next month, especially at PDC. :-) - Lawrence Liu
via twhirl
honestly I like Live Mesh but it will truely wow me when I can integrate more devices to my mesh. I know it's coming, just a matter of when. - Bryan
Kevin, so is his opinion invalid because he works for Microsoft? Or is it only valid if he's *condemning* the product? Or is he supposed to append a legal disclaimer to every single tweet stating that he works for Microsoft and therefore his opinions might be horribly, horribly tainted? :-D - Karim
And Kevin, while we're being all transparent 'n shit, maybe you could go into a little more detail as to your relationship with Adobe Systems Inc.? ;-) - Karim
That sandwich would most definitely be thrown away. - Kenya
To all of the nay sayers, I think most people *WOULD NOT TOUCH IT* so they couldn't throw it away or anything else. They would just leave it there for someone else to deal with. - Andrew Baron
@Andrew it's a possibility, but I toss stuff out in the office fridge because I don't want mold to somehow get involved with my food... - Ben Jackson
via twhirl
@ben, you should be careful, you are the most likely to be exposed to unsuspecting growth, a total biohazard. Please leave that stuff alone and let someone else deal with it, you could be seriously injured. - Andrew Baron
I mean really "I tell people how to use Twitter/FriendFeed/Facebook for their business". Really? Can't they find that out for free instead of paying you $25 an hour? - Candace Holly
Word. Unless you build it or wrote a book about it, spare us the expertness. Social media expert is the new feng shui consultant. - Eric @ CS Techcast
For $25 an hour, I can tell you how to make your website a perfect focal point and make it peaceful to the visitor, Eric. - Candace Holly
Well, since I'm a social media consult*** Ow! Dammit! That hurt! The whole keyboard? You couldn't have just slung the mouse at me? Geez...I think I'm bleeding... - Rahsheen™
+1 for Steven. Now, Candace, since you're an expert, can you tell me how to use this darned thing? :-) - Robert Scoble
Rahsheen, I'm throwing the mouse next. @Robert - Yes. You click the button saying sign up and fill in the appropriate things. Then, you check your e-mail and you verify it. then, you read the About us section and the FAQ. And you click buttons and type. ..That will be $50 plus a initial consultation fee. - Candace Holly
I've got $25 if you want to go out and get some beer. Ah, peaceful. - Eric @ CS Techcast
Don't drink beer but I'll have a soda. You can have the beer. - Candace Holly
Candace, how can you be a real expert if you are going to only charge $50? A real expert's fees start at $200. - Robert Scoble
I fail at social media expert...ism? I'll keep my day job. - Candace Holly
Candace is being very clever - undercutting the competition ruthlessly until she gains market share. Then we'll all be paying her per Tweet/comment/post on sojal meedja apps and platforms. Plus, she didn't specify what the 'initial consultation fee' is.... - WorldofHiglet
what about Social Media Managers or Community Managers - do we discount their value as well? I take your point, but I think we need ways to define roles which people are undertaking and for better or worse, the term Social Media is recognised by a lot of people, even if it has different meanings for different people. - Matt Hooper
Yes...that's it..I'm undercutting big time. I will show you how to use Twitter and you will be Tweeting like no one's business! As an added promotion *for today and today only* I will also give you this FREE ping.fm beta code. (lol) - Candace Holly
everybody on this thread is an expert at social media...right?! LOL just kidding!! ha, ha! - Susan Beebe
@Matt - If your company pays you to manage your community or, manage your company's presence on the social media front, that's different. But, a "social media expert/consultant" is something I just don't get. Does not compute. @WorldofHiglet - I'll also throw in a free consultation on how to use ping.fm! - Candace Holly
So Candace, is it true that if you go over your 140 limit on Twitter the extra characters get sucked into the Large Hadron Collider and the world ends? I read that somewhere - and this is the result...http://www.cyriak.co.uk/lhc/lh... - WorldofHiglet
@WorldofHiglet - as an "expert" I fear the results are much worse. If you go over 140 characters, your twitter url is given to the underwear gnomes who will then steal the extra characters and possibly take over your twitter account while taunting people with the socks they stole from your dryer. This is a secret only experts know about Twitter. *nods* - Candace Holly
OOohh, I get a ping consultation! Huh, you're all just jealous that you didn't get one.... - WorldofHiglet
