“Here's an interesting thought: no matter which party wins the election, it'll be a pretty big first - either the first non-caucasian president, or the first female vice president. I'm a little more excited about that than anything else!”
i thought bill clinton was america's first 'black' president. silly me. lolz - .LAGizmoto
It's not just about making history - it's about setting the world back on the right track - Chris Saad via twhirl
McCain needs to keep the votes from those who would have voted for HRC, had she made it to be the dems candidate, but were moving towards him once the nomination was lost. Not much more information about Palin this side of the pond, but it sounds a bit like a last minute contingency plan to me. - dario
McCain's choice of running mate is obvious pandering to get just that reaction from voters. Palin is a weak candidate, maybe weaker that Quayle who we remember couldn't spell potato or some such ridiculous thing. - Rafael Robayna
half-caucasian. either that, or we can just say he's black (versus *non*-caucasian) like everyone else. sorry, feeling nitpicky today. - Kamilah Gill
Except that Palin is staunchly anti-abortion. What may seem like a win for equality would in effect be a loss for women's rights. Firsts in gender or race may have novelty, but let's not forget there are long term results from our choices here. - Sherard Ewing
For me it's more about what's the right thing to do, who represents the best opportunity for a better America? Who is going to dig us out of the hole Dubya dug so resolutely? That's what gets me excited. It's nothing to do with race, gender, religion or whatever. I'm now an Obamacan because I genuinely believe he will offer this country the best chance right now. - Sally Church
Yep this is shaping up to be a very pivotal election. We're presented with two very different ideas of the "american dream" (yes, it seems we don't all agree on this means) - and how to achieve it. - Jason Kaneshiro
I agree with Chris. It's nice that we're making history, but much more is at stake than history. - Chieze Okoye
It will be interesting for Mcain and his running mate. I mean he doesn't even think women should get paid the same as men. - PC Easy via twhirl
not an Obamacan or a McCainiac, I'm an American - Jeff Quinton
For most jobs in the tech sector, you can't actually do much to guarantee that women will get paid the same as men. Most of the time the people working alongside each other have no idea what the other people are getting paid. And employers should be allowed to base pay on experience and merit. I don't see how you can equalize pay in most non-unionized jobs where there isn't a set pay scale. - AlexScoble(Robert'sBro)
I'm not against the idea of women getting paid the same as men for the same job given that they both have similar experience and performance, but I don't see how this can be effectively regulated in industries where people are salaried. - AlexScoble(Robert'sBro)
I'm totally there -- I believe I've created social platforms just because I'm such an introvert myself - JungleG
it's worth testing, but it wouldn't surprise me if the biggest extroverts online, are actually the biggest introverts in real life. - Vincent van Wylick

I still don't get the allure of using something like this. Web Apps are web apps for a reason. If I wanted them to be desktop apps I'd use desktop apps. - BCK
it's just the idea of not having to rely on a browser and also a smaller change in mindset from using desktops - Zee at WeDoCreative
Why not set up a Fluid instance instead? - Bill Sodeman
@BCK there are advantages for desktop up which is part of a set of interfaces extending the capabilities of the webapp (e.g. offline/integration with other apps etc), although this one (like mailplane for MAC) are not there yet - Naor
Safari and Firefox. A handful for sure... I think he should at least say "such as." Other great browsers exist... Opera, Konqueror, Epiphany, Camino... - Jake (aka Jawee)
If you're running IE6, you're not on a Mac. Last version was 5.2.3. Referring people to Safari seems odd. As does "there /are are/ a handful." But now I'm just picking nits. I still like it. ;) - Kevin Hessel
Must be nice to have the option to say screw off to about 70% of the browser market. I don't like IE anymore either but as someone who creates websites for companies that have to be accessible to the majority of people surfing the web, I have to support it. We develop on FF and I always get mad when our boss demos our stuff to management on IE since I save those lovely cross-browser bugs for last. His excuse: "It's what came installed on my computer." That's probably the reason most IE users use it. - Lindsay Donaghe

“Why don't people in control of advertising budgets grok live video sponsorships? It's an absolute slam dunk, especially for branding.”
I apologize for sounding naive, but what makes it so much better than any of the other options out there? I have worked in internet advertising before and would think that a text or image ad overlaid across something that will be there for some time (thus having a greater exposure) would be more beneficial than a live streaming event that ends much sooner. Granted the audience is more in tune, but that generally means nothing as they are more likely to continue watching the live event for fear of missing out on something than clicking on my ad. With a static page they can click without fear that the original content will be gone or will have changed. - Aaron Krug
Sorry for rambling on, but in specifics to branding these types of campaigns are generally only run by already established brands whose products are well known (Mercedes, Nike, McDonalds, etc.). These companies are far more concerned with the amount of people they can reach in one advertising campaign (reach) than with any sort of specific sponsorship (niche), unless the event is already well established also, which most live video events held on the web are not (yet anyway). - Aaron Krug
Aaron - you're right. It makes no sense. - Kevin Cearns
Smaller companies don't run branding campaigns near as often because not as many people know their products, and doing so can even hurt the image of both the live event and the company sponsoring it. Would you watch an event sponsored by "Square One Entertainment, makers of the incredible ShamWOW towel!"? I know that I would probably laugh and move on. A text ad on a static page is far less intrusive and less likely to receive ridicule. - Aaron Krug

The FOX News production value is especially piss poor. They don't even bother to frame up their pundits properly. Coming from a film/photography background this drives me crazy. - Sean Davis

this isn't really related to ur message Chris, but do me a favour and spread the word amongst your followers about TheSixtyOne.com. It really has the potential to be a bigger last.fm. Oh and no, I'm not working for them and neither is WeDoCreative. - Zee at WeDoCreative
Sure can, nice video. Glad it fit so well in your ear, but don't start walking around talking into it while trying to interact with humans in meatspace like those other crazies. I can never figure out if they're talking to me or their headset. - Aaron Krug
