OK, I just got chastised by the spoiler police (Tudor). But srsly folks, I don't think this video could be any less shocking or bizarre for those who read my comment first. - Jeanette Martinez

Crazy! Viet Kieu can actually be dual citizens soon. I used to have to explain how as refugees we became stateless because of the reasons why we left VN, but the new law opens the doors for VK to buy property in VN in the future. - Mai

It's definitely real, her camp issued a statement in response today. "Governor Palin received a phone call on Saturday from a French Canadian talk show host claiming to be French President Nicholas Sarkozy. Governor Palin was mildly amused to learn that she had joined the ranks of heads of state, including President Sarkozy, and other celebrities in being targeted by these pranksters. There were a couple of funny moments in there as well, where they mixed languages in a slightly tricky way. When talking about hunting, they said something like "we could tue some baby phoques" (kill some baby seals). Then later he says that his wife Carla wrote a song for her called [something I couldn't quite follow about "rouge a lèvres sur un cochon" (lipstick on a pig)], which he then translates as [something about Joe the plumber]. - Joel Webber
And the bit about her "edgy" documentary "Nailin' Pailin"? Classic! - Joel Webber
I am so glad I'm not a public figure. I do see what they mean about her cutesy-pootsyness. It's adora-borable, yes it is! The sad thing is I wouldn't have done nearly as well in that conversation. - MiɳiMagɘ (Sexy Scimitar)

Daughter of slave votes for Obama
October 31 at 4:35 am - via Bookmarklet - Link
"Amanda Jones, 109, the daughter of a man born into slavery, has lived a life long enough to touch three centuries. And after voting consistently as a Democrat for 70 years, she has voted early for the country's first black presidential nominee. The middle child of 13, Jones, who is African American, is part of a family that has lived in Bastrop County for five generations. The family has remained a fixture in Cedar Creek and other parts of the county, even when its members had to eat at segregated barbecue dives and walk through the back door while white customers walked through the front, said Amanda Jones' 68-year-old daughter, Joyce Jones." - Paul Buchheit via Bookmarklet
Wow. - Vincent X
Amazing. - Cyndy
"Secretary of State spokeswoman Ashley Burton said Texas can't confirm whether Jones is the state's oldest active voter because there is too much voter information to sort through. At the county level, there are other challenges. An election official in Hays County said its records are not searchable by age ..." Please someone hire these people a programmer! - Chris Lamprecht

"Hello. I'm calling for John McCain and the RNC because you need to know that Barack Obama has not accepted Joe the Plumber's friend request on Facebook. We know he's logged on, because we saw he changed his status on Monday. On Tuesday, he joined the group Art Historians Are Saucy. But he still won't accept Joe the Plumber's friend request. He knows it's Joe. Joe uses the screen shot of the two of them together as his profile picture. That's not a uniter. That's the same old liberal-elite politics as usual." - Kevin Fox via Bookmarklet
"Hello. I'm calling for John McCain and the RNC because you need to know that Barack Obama doesn't use his turn signal when he merges onto a freeway. I mean, seriously, who the hell does this guy think he is? He just goes. It's not even like he attempts to fit in. And I'm not talking lone-wolf maverick style, either. I mean, this is the kind of driving that gets people killed. Much like the bombs of Bill Ayers that could have killed countless Americans. That's not change, my friends. That's the same old Washington politics as usual." - Ana

"Nike Hindsight is, put simply, like giving bicyclists a pair of bifocals for their peripheral vision. By using Fresnel lenses on the sides of eye wear, riders can detect motion in a field of view beyond the normal human limit of 180º. To get technical, high power, diverging Fresnel zones aligned vertically distort into view an extra 25º of view on either side. In doing this, vision is radically distorted in the periphery, but as the eye detects only motion in that area, little clarity is lost in the process." - Dan Hsiao via Bookmarklet
I very much want to try a pair of these out. - Kevin Fox
I wonder how long it would take to get used to objects appearing in the wrong place. I could see these becoming a must-have. I won't bike without polarized lenses. (I want to know where drivers are looking, and whether parked cars are occupied. That's probably more useful in the suburbs though. In the city, "everyone is trying to kill me" is a reasonable approximation.) - seth

Great shots from a photo journalist following Obama around for over a year. My favorite is the first one I clipped here of Michelle and Barrack. - Bret Taylor via Bookmarklet
"Four years ago Time photographer Callie Shell met Barack Obama backstage when she was covering presidential candidate John Kerry. She sent her editor more photographs of Obama than Kerry. When asked why, she said, "I do not know. I just have a feeling about him. I think he will be important down the road." Her first photo essay on Obama was two and half years ago. She has stuck with him ever since." - Bret Taylor
Wow, these are really nice. - Chris White
Yeah, I'm loving this... still going through them... Nice share! - Christopher Galtenberg
The captions are really enlightening, too. "I loved that he cleaned up after himself before leaving an ice cream shop in Wapello, Iowa. He didn't have to. The event was over and the press had left. He is used to taking care of things himself and I think this is one of the qualities that makes Obama different from so many other political candidates I've encountered. Nov. 7, 2007." re: http://digitaljournalist.org/i... - Bret Taylor
I liked that one too - so will my wife :) - Christopher Galtenberg
These are beautiful. I do like the one of he and Michelle but like the one of the two little boys staring up at him even more. - Carla Thompson
I think the key to getting these kinds of pictures is getting access. Not everyone gets to ride on the campaign bus while candidates are sleeping. By the way, I have the same rule about no pictures after my jaw has dropped. :-) - Jeff Eddings
You clipped the same photos I did when I posted this a few days ago. All of them are aweome, but these 3 are just outstanding. - Anika Malone

I hope you all are right. Because if not, some of us might end up paying dearly. I have serious reservations about him still, but I'm resigned to the next four years. - Jill, Superhero Librarian
I love how photographic this family is... I've seen some great pics this whole campaign. - Heidi Blanton-Hansen
The captions on the photographs brought tear to my eyes. Thanks for sharing this Bret - Shakeel Mahate
@JMS I'm not the type to think that Obama's gonna come in like a magical negro a la Morgan Freeman and make everything better with a sweep of his arm, but given the options, I'm behind him. I don't agree with everything, but I feel like we've got something going with him. - Derrick
I'm just concerned about the more global issues. With the husband in the Army, I have some serious concerns about what Obama's talking about doing. He's really not the best choice for the military. But then neither is the other option. At least we'll see one more raise before military funding gets cut again. - Jill, Superhero Librarian
Really powerlful photos.. Weird that I had to keep scrolling to see the good ones.. - Bindu Reddy

@JMS: I wish your husband well and thank him for his service to the country. I think getting a President who has actually lived outside of the US, understands global politics and aspirations will actually make america, and its troops safer. - Sudhakar "Thaths" Chandra
War isn't good. That's my point. And I really hope so Sudhakar. I so want to be wrong about my gut level feelings. - Jill, Superhero Librarian
@JMS. It's a good point. Hopefully Obama can help bring your husband home safely and quickly. Please thank your husband for me and my family. - Scott Loganbill
