“I want to replace my blog comments w/Friendfeed. How can I do this via disqus like javascript?”
November 11 at 9:23 pm - Link
The ability to do this is certainly desirable, but it would have to be provided by FriendFeed. I'm pretty sure it is not a current capability. - Phillip Stewart
I hope this means more Kevin Rose interactivity via FriendFeed. - Pete Delucchi
Via Disqus? Nah, buddy. - ♫ Rahsheen™
I'd talk to Duncan Riley about this as http://www.theinquisitr.com has this functionality in addition to disqus. - James Fuller
Your blog software could use the FriendFeed API to query ff, looking for when the new post shows up, and then simply link to the ff page for that item. Maybe you could pull in the comments also through the API, but I don't think there would be a way to post new comments directly from your blog. I'm not familiar with the API though. - Phillip Stewart
I think it's a WP plugin - Outsanity
Let's see... Hey Kevin. What's up? - Josh Haley
The API definitely allows for this. Go look at RWW or any wordpress blog with the FriendFeed comments plugin. Still waiting on Disqus or ID or someone to actually unify this setup. RWW seems to have the best example of what I would like to see. - ♫ Rahsheen™
http://wordpress.org/extend/pl... Intense Debate intergrated the comments last I checked, but they're back in private beta - BCK via twhirl
That's a great idea - PC Easy via twhirl
great idea....would like to know how to do it too...let us know if u succeed at doing it kevin - Eldon
Wordpress has a plugin that pulls FF comments, likes, etc. - mathew ingram
how do i follow just this post from FF? - Elsie H Martinez
Hrm, yea, I've seen a few plugins that enable this, but nothing w/disqus like cut-n-paste javascript. My blog is currently on squarespace (no 3rd party plugins) so I need something via js. - Kevin Rose
What about http://www.backtype.com/ ? - you can "claim" all your comments by setting up the specific URL's where you comment - doubt it to work with others' comments on your blog, though. You probably might have to wait until intensedebate or disqus will either support squarespace or offer a plugin-less solution. - schilke
That would be cool. Strange I've never heard that idea before. - Ciaoenrico
You can use http://wordpress.org/extend/pl... this one. And a demo is here: http://www.gurkanoluc.com/wp-f... - Ali

One of the most interesting things about the NeXT OS at that time is how similar is to the current Mac OS X. Just a small example. When you attach a file on an email it appears located in the exact location you choose and not at the bottom (like in Windows). - Martin Añazco

If you could some how display some context (especially for comments) when you hover over the message, that would make ff domination complete =) - Mark Philpot
Cool, what about temporarily stopping the feed when you hover over any part of the post? - Kol Tregaskes
Doesn't work for me in Firefox, feed continues to scroll when I put mouse over comment link. :-( - Kol Tregaskes
A couple of things, can we please have the link to the FF page for the share on all items we see in real-time instead of just the replies. Is it possible to have a like on all items too and if you 'like' a reply it just likes that share (or perhaps implement some sort of like by comment feature)? - Kol Tregaskes
@Kol The feed only stops when your mouse is moving over your real-time view. Once you stop moving your mouse, the feed continues again. If you click on the comment link, the feed should pause too. Let me know if that's not working for you. - Dan Hsiao
Dan, any timeframe for realtime in the iGoogle and Facebook gadgets? - John Craft
Very nice! - David Cook
Bret, as always, you're a scholar and a gentleman. Thx for listening in this regard and acting on it so quickly. - Duncan Riley

l0ckergn0me: Usability rule: don't decide for my clicking behavior, I can do it - directeur
Dan, oh I see, so moving the mouse stops the fee, stopping your mouse moves the feed. Feels a bit backwards to me. I personally would prefer it as you hover over the text or some part of the feed it stops. It's a bit annoying to keep moving my mouse while reading the posts. Hope that makes sense? :-) - Kol Tregaskes
Dan, I've tried this moving the mouse around and it works most of the time but it occasionally ignores this and the feed starts up again. Should I be moving the mouse over a particular part of the feed? - Kol Tregaskes
Alejandro, yep that's the one. - Kol Tregaskes
can i control the speed - queue messages and display only 1 message per 5 seconds - Kishore Balakrishnan

Wow Robert, you get feeds like every second, so hard to follow. Correction, every quarter of a second :) - Nir Ben Yona
I guess I am really dense. It's cool, but all it does is save me having to reload or refresh, which the old ff actually did periodically anyways. It seems to be feeding the whole "attention span of gnats" culture. Maybe I will understand it much better in the debate room tonight! - Laura Norvig
real-time FF is almost TOO kinetic... strap yourself in suckas! - .LAG
what other variables after the ? can we use on this? - Josh Haley
Laura: you are right in that this isn't useful for everyone one as the primary FriendFeed interface (including me). I personally find it very useful for events like the debate. - Bret Taylor

It reorders things too -- on the downside it detaches comments from context, on the upside it means I don't have to figure out which comments on a long thread I've already seen and which are new. Will use it for a while to see which I like better. - Deborah Fitchett
@Justin if you have your subscriptions in folders you can open up windows for each.. - Simon Wicks
Since we have been using it internally, I keep the "mini window" open all day on the side of my screen, almost like a chat window. I use it as a notifier. I use the normal FF interface for most of my interaction except for the occasional comment. - Bret Taylor

Bronwyn works with me at OTX. She went the day after me. Her experience mostly reflects mine, although I have to say I was a little disappointed. Maybe b/c my expectations were too high... The 25-minute finale of pure noise did not convince me, I was kind of bored after the first 5, and really annoyed after 15. And I still don't know where the keyboard/sampler came from. But indeed, an experience I won't forget... Don't worry, after such a sold out tour in Europe and the US, I am sure they will stop in BA sooner or later. - Olivier
Thank for the insight! Hope they come to BA (Jesus & Marychain are coming in november, at least) or anywhere reachable with a 3/4-hour flight. My expectations are super high as well, but I'm sure that seeing them live will be better than the youtube videos I saw (even from the "Holocaust section"). The experience that Bronwyn told is something I want to try. - Martin Añazco

Unfortunately prices in Palo Alto continue to rise :( - Paul Buchheit
Does this mean the house was bought last year and foreclosed this year? - Gabe
250k in Antioch is still ridiculous - Sudhakar "Thaths" Chandra
we bought our house in the last days of '06. home prices in my zip are fluctuating bad. 4 months ago, our house was worth $75K more than we paid. 2 months ago, they said it was -$35K what we paid. Yesterday, it's now work $45K more than we paid. That's just based on homes sales of similar sized houses and negates that we live in the best part of our zip. Appraiser said our proper location and state of home tacks on an extra $20K. It's insanity. - Anika Malone
Hey but on the flip side, the property taxes are also dropping! Ok, faint consolation, I know. - Phil Glockner
On the other flip side (does that even work?), a lot of housing prices have been dramatically inflated between 2000 and 2008. In some areas, homes are dropping in price to something closer to a natural rate of increase. (I'm not saying it doesn't suck to lose equity, just that some of those prices were unnaturally high.) - Jennifer Dittrich
It's Antioch. Might as well be Fresno. Call me when SV housing falls back to a reasonable % of local income levels. - David Lee
Jennifer - if people are willing to buy a house in a certain area for a certain price, then it isn't an unreasonable price, right? But if people are buying those houses on the expectation that, even at that price, the value will still go up, that's a risky game. Especially if they get a loan structured so they can sell the house in two years only after paying a bit on the interest and nothing on the principal, or pay the penalty otherwise. - Phil Glockner
Some good detail here. In theory, the optimal solution would be for your home to appreciate in value while the one you want decreases, but that's not realistic. Usually, both would increase or decrease at approximately the same rate. - Louis Gray
Sucks if you need to sell. Otherwise, i don't really care how much my house is worth. I prefer that the prices have come down to reasonable values. For a few years, i was living in a house i couldn't have afforded to purchase. - ·[▪_▪]·
Louis, if you want to sell a house in Silicon Valley and move to Antioch, things look pretty good. Moving the other way, not so much. - Chris White
@Chris but that's always been the case. - ·[▪_▪]·
ck zillow.com or realestateabc.com for properties in 33160 or any Dade/Broward areas - a fluid market to say the least - Scott Moskowitz
Sorry, but $660 in Antioch is psychotic. (I rent in Walnut Creek and am in the market to buy on the cheap). A fun exercise is to find the median home price in 1999 and then use historic 3% appreciation to find the true value. Do this and most will find homes are still WAY overpriced. BTW - property taxes in CA are psychotic as well. - AJ Kohn
