Jason, you're argument is a red herring. Laws are appropriate when placed to ensure the safety of those around you (and possibly your own safety) or to ensure the smooth function of the society in which we participate. Gay marriage is not a threat to your personal safety or the safety of those around you and would not prevent you from smoothly functioning in your everyday life. Hopefully no one is seriously going to argue that say, China, is as "free" a nation for it's citizens as the US is right? Like any democracy the US has fluctuations in what is considered "free enough" ... right now the fight centers around gay marriage among other issues but we absolutely are moving in that direction (Prop 8 not withstanding). Gay relationships and gays themselves have much more legal protection than they did 20 years ago and so on. Societies move slow, they have inertia. - Soulhuntre
