This is the first of a bunch of shots I'm uploading straight from the 5D MkII camera I was lucky enough to play with yesterday (Thanks to Canon and 1000heads!) The only thing I've done in lightroom is add metadata. This shot is at 6400, ad it could easily pass for 400 from my 400d. The 5 of us believe this must somehow create light! unless... he flips over completely, slams his feet down on the ground hard enough to catapult the bike over his head and as the wheels land, he leaps on and keeps riding... I think he is being 'RAD' - Johnny Worthington
yep...he's head over heels for one of them... - JA Castillo
Yea, I ordered mine from Amazon in Sept and I'm still waiting. I have not heard of anyone in the US receiving one yet through normal retail channels. - Jeff P. Henderson
I'd be really interested to see what you make of the high ISO performance. That, rather than video, is for me (though maybe not others) going to be a big factor. - CdL Creative
will hopefully get a good few hours play :) - Phill Price

Dec. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Ford Motor Co. Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally will drive to Washington for hearings on an industry loan package after members of Congress criticized automaker CEOs for flying corporate jets last month.
“He’s driving,” a Ford spokesman, Mark Truby, wrote in an e-mail today about Mulally’s plans for sessions set to start on Dec. 4. A General Motors Corp. spokesman, Tony Cervone, said “it is safe to assume” CEO Rick Wagoner won’t use a company plane, while a Chrysler LLC spokeswoman, Katie Hepler, declined comment on Robert Nardelli’s travel plans. - Thomas Hawk

@peter, I know what I'd take from his range of car... an Aston! - John
I wonder if he'll pump his own gas or go full service. - Thomas Hawk
I think they should go neutral and take a 7-series BMW preferably hydrogen powered. - Jason Shellen
Hah! I read "Ford Chief to Drive to Washington for Hearing Aid (Update2)" - Phill Price
*Car breaks down* "Let's see... where's the OnStar button?" "Phfff! Oh yeah, I'm driving a company car. Hmmm what's SYNC? I didn't even bring my iPod! —useless!!" - Micah Wittman
It's about time he got smart and decided to drive a Ford there instead of using the corporate jet. Duh, Well, at least Ford saw an opportunity, even if after the corporate jet brouhaha. - Cathryn Hrudicka
Nardelli will always come out okay, just like he did after he trashed Home Depot as its head: the stock price was halved under his leadership but he still left with 250 million dollars. These executives don't really have a sense of personal urgency connected with success or failure of their companies. - Michael Muller
If he still has it, perhaps he'll drive his Lexus: "2006: Alan Mulally, who recently replaced Tom Ford as the CEO of Ford, admitted to journalists that he drives a Lexus LS430 because "it's the finest car in the world."" http://www.motorauthority.com/... - Simon
People like Nardelli are pure gold. All the US needs to do is get him hired at Toyota. - Private Sanjeev
great photos - not sure about the whole white border thing though, although it's growing on me - Phill Price
I know what you mean but I HATE square thumbnails. Far too often, they don't look anything like the underlying image. Using white space to pad the image dimensions to square was the only way I could think of to get the thumbnails to appear how I wanted. Very much a "lesser of two evils" situation. - CdL Creative
oh i seeeeeeeeee its for the thumbs! Get ya :D great thing about smugmug is they're normal shaped :D - Phill Price
I don't know what I am doing wrong, but I have 3 in Explore and they are the dumbest photos I have. A Macmini unbox, A couple of Ghostbusters, and Fat Spiderman. http://www.flickr.com/photos/s... - Kreg Steppe
I should add..you do have some wonderful images. - Kreg Steppe
Cheers Kreg. You're not so bad yourself (bows top hat) - Phill Price
I currently have 1 in explore but I've had a total of 8. Never my best stuff since they won't include my nudes, but it's nice to be included anyway. - Michael Hocter
How do you get the nice gray page with your explore photos? - Lindsay Donaghe
@Obivously Lindsay: Go to Bighuge Labs, run the Scout app on their site, and after it runs there is an option to make a poster. It will also give you the option to even upload that to Flickr automatically. - Kreg Steppe
Love the symmetry next to each other Steve - Phill Price
Now that's an interesting point that I probably wouldn't have noticed otherwise. I do tend to go through "phases", so maybe I'm in a "distinctive lines" sort of mode at the moment. Makes me wonder what else I've shot that might make accidental or coincidental "diptychs". Steve, who thinks the benches is the "better" of the two. - CdL Creative
Interesting. I tend to put annoying people in a list and remove them from a home list wait a week. Then there's a second level. If they annoy from the second level then bye bye! - Phill Price
Phill, I did that, but I found that I never ever got around to that second-tier list. - Michael Hocter
Are you able to control how much compression is applied to the video while it is recording? Watching it at 1080p show considerable jpeg compression artifacts. I would think shooting in HD would be less compressed looking, and more pixel perfect. Or was the compression applied post-production? The video was beautifully and artfully filmed. - Jim Bergman
Jim Begman - Well, first, it was filmed in H.264, not JPEG or MJPEG, so I doubt they're JPEG artifacts. :) Secondly, the camera records at ~40Mbps (same max. bitrate of a 1080p Blu-Ray), but since very few people have 40Mbps connections at home, SmugMug encodes 1080p video at 6Mbps. So there are multiple levels of potential artifact generation - low-light ISO imagery, H.264 encoding on the camera, H.264 encoding after editing but prior to upload, and H.264 encoding after upload. Whew! Complicated! :) - Don MacAskill
Thanks for the explanation! It does clear up the question of compression. I wish my bandwidth was ~40Mbps. T3's for everybody! - Jim Bergman
Holy crap! It looks gorgeous to me; I don't see any compression artifacts at all. Beautiful stuff. - Glen Campbell
Also, Jim, you did click the 1920 link, right? I just figured out that some people were simply hitting the 'fullscreen' button on the 640p embedded version and expecting it to automatically use the higher-rez versions - which it doesn't. - Don MacAskill
Excellent video! Thanks for taking the time to make, post and describe the lenses used in making the video. - Jeff P. Henderson
I want one, but can't afford a new DSLR right now. Wow, what great quality! - Robert Scoble
@Don, where did you get your cameras from? Did you by on line or retail? I placed my order for one on Sept 17 and am still waiting for it to ship from Amazon. - Jeff P. Henderson
That is truly amazing and beautiful! - Brendon Wadey
Those are things where I wish I was rich. I would love to have that camera, but I can't even afford a normal/cheaper DLSR. Thanks for the info. - Brendon Wadey
WOW! That is great footage! & from a DSLR makes it all the more amazing! Thanks for sharing! - Chandler
@Brendon, You can get great deals on used gear a KEH.com. I have sold old camera gear to them on several occasions and they are very honest with the quality of the used gear they sell. You might be able to pick up a used Rebel or depending on your budget a used 5D for a good price. - Jeff P. Henderson
Oh yes I know many places to find good deals on DLSRs, but my budget still can't exactly afford them lol, maybe after Christmas and not so busy. Thanks for the KEH.com suggestion, I didn't know about them. I will for sure check them out. - Brendon Wadey
Man, I can't wait. I ordered mine from Adorama on September 25th, and it hasn't shipped yet. Go Go Go.... Hopefully it'll ship this week. :| - donato
Amazing quality. Anyone want to buy a 40D? :) - Andrew Smith
Great stuff, I really hope I get mine soon from Adorama, they told me it would ship Saturday, but no ship notfication so far, bleh! - Bill Pennington

Looks like the same issue as the commenter on the blog post (Another) Andy. The video is the 480p version upscaled, not the 1080p video, which I can't seem to find a link for. Sorry, I'm good at breaking things! Love what you've done to show off the 5DMII! I hope to get one soon too! - Jim Bergman
Damn, that's gorgeous. Grrr, I'm still waiting for my new 5D MkII from Adorama. Now I'm really going to have to bring my tripod wherever I go again! - David Sifry
Somewhere, a storage company CEO just smiled a little wider. 40Mb/s!! - Mike McMurray
Jim Bergman - Dang, I had a stupid stupid bug. Thanks for helping debug it. It should be fixed now - give that link another shot. Sorry for the hassle!! (Anyone else trying to watch it on Windows, you might want to look again. Sorry about that!) - Don MacAskill
