In the past Robert has said that one of the things he learned from PodTech was that the people who generate revenue should get to make all of the decisions in a company. How flawed is that theory? Let me count the ways. Imagine taking the lead salesperson at a car dealership and then have them running the whole operation while they're still selling. You think that would work well? - Rob Safuto
The picture issue with Cuil (in whose fried mind does that sound like "cool"?) is ridiculous. John C. Dvorak had a picture of John Stossel next to the link to his website.I think people need to get over the idea that just because people used to work for Google that their new startups should be fawned over. They're just people and they'll screw up as much as anyone else. - Rob Safuto
I'm not so sure the alist is dead so much as it has to follow the natural course and be transformed. We love the very idea of celebrity, and we will have our celebrities no matter what or where we can find them. Some of these guys will be among the new a-listers and there will be some new faces to come as well. - Dane morgan
definitely agree I think tools like Friendfeed have significantly controbuted to this - Nick O'Neill
I've said this in...another place, but there will always be an A-list, whether you're talking tech or entertainment or politics or whatever. Perhaps there's a more rapid overturning of the tech A-list, but the A-list is there. Perhaps by July 2009, people will turn to Loren, you, and me for advice, but they'll still turn somewhere. Theoretically, the web provides everyone with an equal pulpit, but some are more equal than others. - Ontario Emperor via fftogo
Syndication has new meaning in 2008. A few years back syndicating via the web meant having an RSS feed. Then you needed an iTunes feed. Now the web is feeding TV and mobile phones. It's a wonderful thing. I may get FIOS in my new house so I hope to watch Loren and the puppets on the big screen soon. - Rob Safuto
Do you believe that Dave Winer is taking credit for Loren calling an end to this? On his latest blog post Dave says, "Well it worked." Dave also says, "...people need to be a lot more careful with each others' reputations, if we ever want to get anywhere." This is coming from a guy who declared war (no kidding) on the President of the United States. http://www.scripting.com/stori... - Rob Safuto
Winer is insane. Time to focus on him a bit see what his story is. File officially opened. - loren feldman
@Rob And he got it wrong. I don't recall that Shel Puppet has any plans to retire if he has his way. - Donna Mugavero
You did the right thing, Loren. Good luck moving forward. - Jay Tannenbaum
I was really looking forward to an @garyvee puppet. Is that in the works? - blackmailismylife
Jesus... It's amazing how much was said in that short post. - Vincent Ferrari
is Loren being a mensch here? Or is this just another piece of schtick? There was nothing at all menschy in the tone of the “open letter.”
Loren has very high order comedic chops, a great sense of strategy, a deep understanding of the level of the room, and how to translate a carnie's ballyhoo for the net by pressing hot buttons of social media. But menschy? Not a bit.
A funny schoolyard bully is no less mean than a physically abusive bully. We all incurred a karmic debt in supporting Loren’s cruelty. - Michael Markman
How much karmic debt would I incur by telling you to shut the fuck up and stop lecturing me? - Vincent Ferrari
I'm selling my karma at a discount on the subprime market - William, CPU Media
Can I put my 'karmic debt' on an Amex card? If I'm going to rack some up then I would at least like to get a few rewards points. - Rob Safuto
who is this loren guy again, and why do I care if he gives shel a domain? ;) - Todd Jordan
Rob- you may not need it. I happen to think if there's a group dynamic among those who consider Loren a mensch, then it's more that we've earned karmic credit for using our brains. Good thing, too- I can't handle any more karmic debt after that whole incident at the convent with the wok and the trapeze. - Donna Mugavero
Good point Donna. Like I said, if only the rest of the world could settle their differences with puppets. - Rob Safuto
You can watch my progress as I develop at http://friendfeed.itafroma.com but my goal is to provide as many features as wanted. My first feature was a Friendfeed block: specify a name, it'll create a block with their feed info. My next feature is going to be like the Wordpress Friendfeed plugin: trackback from friendfeed to your Drupal site. - Mark Trapp
I'm working on a d6 module, but there has been interest in backporting it to d5. Not much of what I'm doing is fundamentally d6, so it should be an easy endeavour - Mark Trapp
I'm hoping to have a 0.1 module ready to go and on drupal contrib cvs today. After that, I think it'd be great if everyone who's interested in it starts to think about what they want to see in a friendfeed.module. - Mark Trapp
Go Mark, go! I possibly can't help you a lot but I will do what I can to support you and your friendfeed.module - Fu_
... now this sounds interesting. Drupal is no longer content management, apparently. Now it's 'Social Publishing' (according to Acquia). - john conroy
I think the problem with Drupal in many respects is that there is no such thing as agile development, especially with its core product and many of the major contrib modules (like views, cck, ecommerce, etc.). Features are planned months and in some cases years in advance, making it hard to respond to trends. - Mark Trapp
The one thing it has going for it is a rock-solid base framework, but it'd be nice to see rapid evolutionary changes to the system instead of these slow, yearly, revolutionary-backwards-incompatible changes it makes when moving from major version to major version. - Mark Trapp
