Hi Marysia, I've used afwin since March this year and regard them as one of the main UK affilliate networks. As long as you are serious about making sales for using some of their merchants you'll have nothing to worry about. If you just want to try out an untested phrase, then I suppose the £5 upfront fee is there to see if you can be easily put off. If you earn less than £25 in a month, the balance *is* carried forward. So I'd suggest paying the £5 by debit card and having a go. Payment to you can be by BACS into a bank account so not having credit card shouldn't be an immediate problem, it must be difficult to buy some things online though. - Andy Roberts
Thanks, Andy, for your really helpful reply! I'll go ahead with them then. I don't have any probs buying things online using Paypal. I like the security of it. However, all UK sites recognise my debit card, which is a Maestro card, and lots of non-UK sites do too. The only time I was unable to buy something it was an IM site - which I thought hilarious! :D - Marysia
What about the clause: "7.3 DWL reserves the right to charge a monthly administrative fee if in any six month period, the Affiliate does not earn a CPA or CPC and the Affiliate does not log into or access its section on the Service Website" - do you know how much the monthly fee is? I'm a bit concerned because I still feel new to all this and am only able to work at it a few hours a week while I find my profitable niche(s). - Marysia
It's ok - I found what I needed (in fact that admin fee is irrelevant). I got it via a really useful forum: affiliates4u.com/forums/affiliate-window - Marysia

"Adobe AIR has released an update to the Adobe AIR platform. DO NOT UPGRADE... yet The upgrade causes a major bug inside Market Samurai where no keyword traffic data is able to be retrieved. The engineers are working on a solution to this right now. But right now, avoid upgrading to Adobe AIR version 1.5 until a Market Samurai update has been released. Brent" - Linda via Bookmarklet

On a more serious note. Andy - that is the exact problem I have been having. Yet it seems strange other people in the UK are not having the same problem. Must investigate more. - laprensa66
Sorry, which problem is this related to? Thanks for the pooktre link - I've seen it before once but it's very inspirational. - Andy Roberts
Andy, Lindas comment on your post down below pretty much answers the problem I was having, which sounds similar to yours. - laprensa66

“Market Samurai Settings for Search Region”
August 4 at 12:55 am - Link
In Market Samurai Settings for Google, there's a drop down menu for selecting a region or else "All countries and territories". I initially set this to UK. After testing with several keywords with which I'm familiar, the results - particularly in the new competition analysis module - don't match those from a google UK search at all. Then I found that changing the setting made no difference at all. Checking against a Google.com search is closer, but after one particular search I became convinced that Samurai is working not only on google.com results but also using &GL=US to specifically retrieve results geared towards the US. - Andy Roberts
So maybe this is a complicated problem relating to IP ranges, caching and other factors or maybe the software has the interface built in for selecting local searches but this hasn't been programmed and activated yet. Maybe it will be fixed for local searches before the 30Day challenge and trial period expire, but the way it looks to me now I have three options. - Andy Roberts
1) Go through the 30DC using a US orientated phrase, and then apply what I've learned from that process to a new, different UK orientated phrase beginning all over again after September. That's what I ended up doing last year. - Andy Roberts
2) Do the keyword research manually using Google trends, keyword external tool, wordtracker free keywords, Microsoft commercial intent tool, etc - Andy Roberts
3) Ty to find a phrase that's likely to work well in *both* markets and see how much traffic I can get from both US and UK sources. If both turn out to be viable they might each end up being monetised differently. - Andy Roberts
Andy, Have you raised this with the Samurai guys? I have had good and quick feedback from them on a variety of issues. Which of the three options have you decided to pursue? - Walter van Straaten
Andy, You are not the only person having this problem as the Samurai Support Forum shows. - Walter van Straaten
Yep, there are UK market issues with both keyword generation and the google ranking aspect, which is to say it's not working for either and the MS guys know already. I think we might have to accept that the challenge is very US centric in it's approach and the other aspects will be too. If MS does include the website/domain creation aspects Ed hints at in the ustream video than these too will be US based I think. - Linda
I am equally frustrated, though it forces me to practice the manual method for researching a specific UK niche. - thefluffanutta
The thing is, even when i first started and was targeting UK on my sites, I found that 70%+ of my traffic was coming from the US. - Frann Leach
Interesting Fran, maybe it's niche specific. Mine are currently 80 +% UK traffic. - Linda
I've been using the Market Samurai this morning as a refined suggestion tool for coming up with potential phrases within a broad area, then cross checking some of those that survive the filters against the manual method. This has thrown up 4 ideas so far, none of which is really all that promising, so I feel I need to generate a few more yet before I start thowing them all away! - Andy Roberts

October 18 at 2:01 am - Link
Chris - this is no help to you, but I've been finding there's a pretty good correlation between Market Samurai and Google.co.uk if MS is set to UK. - amanda
I find there's not a very good correlation between google.co.uk one minute and the next. MS is just another snapshot, sometimes accurate of the trend, sometimes not. - Andy Roberts
Many thanks Amanda and Andy.I thought there may be some bug in the software. Glad that is not the case. Up to day 4 and finding the coursse very useful. Complete newbie to Seo and IM. Finding out a lot! - laprensa66

if you want to target anyone outside the eu then definitely not that. Personally I would go with .net or find alternate .com though I'm not sure on the science behind it and how much effect it has - Daniel McClure

"the mistake of trying to replicate an American business model over here in the UK, when we just don’t have the appetite for it. I’ve just finished reading Click Here To Order by Joel Comm and was massively disappointed with it. I was hoping for inspirational stories of people who have made their living online but instead the book was full of anecdotes from “Master List Builders” and so called “Internet Gurus” who seem to do nothing else but sell the idea of how to make money online. None of whom seem to actually have any of their own ideas or real online business models they just repackage the same crapola over and over again and then sell it to our gullible cousins via God-awful sales letters and eBooks. In my experience this type of stuff just doesn’t wash with us." Interesting blog post from a UK affiliate marketer . - Linda via Bookmarklet

They are putting the monthly price up once the 14 day offer runs out (or sooner), but if you sign up now (for $1) and decide to stay in, then you'll keep the original price. As Ed and Dan say, you can just read everything then walk away if you like. But I urge you to take a look if you are serious about IM. I'm still going through 30DC (started on Aug 1 but life got in the way) but the stuff inside IE puts stuff in whole new light (and I now have even MORE respect for Ed and Dan) - Dominic Goucher

“Hi all, I am new to Thirty Day Challenge and feel swamped at the moment with all the information . Anybody got any advice on way to proceed easily alixander”
September 2 at 4:30 am - Link
Maxine - start with pre-season and just work through the daily training bit by bit. If some of the concepts don't make sense then re-watch the training. The forums can be a bit daunting but most questions you might have will have been asked before, so do a search to find what you need. Also, you may want to join a team to you can support each other and help each other with the tougher stuff. Good luck! - Lisa
There's also another room you might want to look at too: http://friendfeed.com/rooms/30... - Marysia
you can always ask questions here as well :-) Be warned some of the videos need to be watched more than once! - Linda
You don't need to understand the process or read all the information in order to get started. Taking the plunge and implementing small actions regularly is the best way to way to learn more about it all, I think. Conversations help too :-) - Andy Roberts
To be honest, you don't have to go at it full pelt like we all did, so maybe you have an advantage. otoh you might find that you need to go at the same speed as we did to keep up the momentum. The first 4 days are fraught, it gets a lot easier after that. - Frann Leach

Many of the small teams will be diminished by now so organising wider meetups for UK 30Dcers is a great idea for the coming months.
