"As opposed to signing an exclusive deal with one of the carriers, or licensing an OS like Windows Mobile or Symbian, Kogan simply designed a device, had it manufactured in China, and loaded Android onto it. By eliminating those costs (as well as the huge expense of marketing and retail stores), Kogan can sell the device – without subsidies from the carriers – for the relatively modest price of $192-$256 (the more expensive version includes WiFi and camera)." - Chris White
"My thoughts on Android are rather uncomplicated and are not in any way well summarized by my comments that day. Here’s what I really think" - imabonehead

“Apparently Android Marketplace is currently looking into ways of curbing the offensive and obnoxious comments found under some of the applications. I'm usually against such action, but it's warranted in this case.”
meaning the not responding came mostly from communications-related apps. specifically: SMS (the worst offender) and contacts. Searching for contacts almost always results in the not-responding message as does composing an SMS by doing a name lookup in the to: line - Baratunde Thurston
"According to a comment made by Steve Jobs in July, the original iPhone broke the 1 million mark in 74 days, which also works out to just about 2 1/2 months. By units shipped, the first Android phone is looking to be as much of a success as the first Apple phone." - scott anderson

by other measures, not even close. G1 got only lukewarm reviews from key journalists and word-of mouth buzz from enthusiasts has been minimal. oh, and the product is neither as complete or as polished. but glad to see strong sales... competition a good thing for us consumers. - Jon Price
This is huge. Its only will get better. - Muthu Ramadoss
I personally like how the G1 looks but once they make it sleek and more agronomic it will be a killer seller - Kyle Weller

the only way I've found to exit the app is to uninstall it. If it worked, it would be a good app. Strange that they would release such an unstable version of it. Can it really be that difficult to fix? - rambn
i can't figure out how to bring up replies manually. it notified me of recent replies, but the posts are only available temporarily. i generally use hahlo via the browser - Baratunde Thurston
Baratunde - isn't there a "@" button on the bottom of the screen? (in ver. 1.2..5). I would love this app, if it were stable. - rambn

one of the most impressive things about iphone is the harmony between the hardware and the os. i appreciate the skill to get linux work on iphone, but what exactly is the point? - Engin Erdogan
yeah. During my purchase, I knew that I would be dropping it in very short order. I'm hard on equipment. Somehow, I glazed over the $130 deductible during the purchase, tho. That + my $200 termination fee with Sprint brings the total up considerably. - rambn
Look at this ridiculously customizable mobile phone that runs Google Android! Prices go from $98 (w/o camera) or $119 (w/ camera). You can add anything from GPS, WiFi, TV/FM receiver,2 SIM card support (each item costing $39) up to 18 karat gold plating ($225k :-))). What does anyone make out of this? Who has the courage to be the first to order? ;-) - Nenad Nikolic

correct me if I am wrong, but this isn't multitouch. The screen is capacitive... when you are letting go of one touch, it is then going to register the other. it going to register the most recent, but if you let go, it will still register an existing touch. It is not registering both touches at the same time. - Tim Hoeck
the multitouch capability in the source code is uncommented because it hasnt been coded in, once gestures are made that doesnt interfere with iphones patents we'll see gestures with a firmware update - Kyle Weller
I started a tumblog to gather info I found about the Android... so far it's just got some wallpapers that I made (and a few I found). Thought someone might like them. - Lindsay Donaghe
