They already have them now. It's just there are far, far fewer, and it takes more than just a script kiddie to write one. I still like my chances. - Brian Norwood
It's also not as easy to get one because you don't have AcitveX for Windows - Snakeyes11 via twhirl

That's the app's fault, not the OS's fault. If the Mac doesn't allow the app to use as much memory as it needs, then it has a bug. - xero
@xero, agreed. The app is the problem, not the OS. - Jason Huebel

Apple to sell a $99 4GB iPhone at Walmart?
10 hours ago - via Bookmarklet - Link
Is this is a good thing or a bad thing? - David Bisset (sn) via Bookmarklet
It's a good thing. Definitely. I think Apple needs as many users as they can get right now, and if they can ship a quality product for under $100, so be it. The thing is, if they can sell it this cheap this year, they can sell an 8GB one this cheap next year. - Larry Hudson

There is a check box in Preferences >> Advanced "Automatically retrieve invitations from Mail". Do you have that turned on? BTW - this is a total guess. What you are describing doesn't happen to me and I don't use iMail either. - elroy
I also don't have alarms on in iCal, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. I have "Turn off all alarms" checked. I used the gmail/gcal notifier. - elroy

Only Problem...I have email notifications on my Google Calendars...and Mail.App wants to pop up and send an "Email Reminder". I don't want that, a popup would be nice. - Kreg Steppe
Good step in the right direction. I wish that events entered into the iPhone updated GCal instead of just the local iCal data. - RyanEs
Can't wait to try this! - patrick
Not good enough. Please support iPhone. - Drew Lucas
@Drew ditto. CalDAV support is a start. Unless the iPhone calendar APIs are retarded then this is just half a solution. - Glenn Batuyong via twhirl
ooooooh yes! - Didier Lahely
Google Calendar has supported iCal for several months now via CalDAV. - Jason Huebel
I agree, what new about that? - fbrunel
CalDAV is the open calendaring protocol that supercedes proprietary scheduling solutions like Outlook and Groupwise. Unfortunately, Google's first iteration of CalDAV support does not include "availability" so you cannot do a "busy0-search" of your CalDAV-using peers when you set up an appointment. - Glenn Batuyong
Two way sync between iCal and gCal is what's new, kids. Also, +1 Drew Lucas. - Anthony Citrano

I had already given up iCal and gone completely over to Google calendar because of their incompatability. Don't see any reason to going back to iCal. - Sheldon Steiger via twhirl
Downloaded it and tried it tonight. Seems to work. Amazing timing in that I was going to start messing around this week with http://gcaldaemon.sourceforge.... - Micah Wittman
Trying this out now. I've been using the sync feature via CalDAV, but that doesn't sync to the iPhone at all (no calendar subscriptions can sync). Hopefully this works better. - Ryan Twomey
Yep same here, no support when handshaking with the iPhone. So I synched via USB, and then you can see all of your events, but you are UNABLE to add an event to a calendar from your iPhone. Not impressed. - Drew Lucas

""We have removed the KnowledgeBase article because it was old and inaccurate," Apple spokesman Bill Evans, told Macworld. "The Mac is designed with built-in technologies that provide protection against malicious software and security threats right out of the box.”" (I knew it) - Vincent van Wylick via Bookmarklet
This seems like straight-up denial of reality to me. - Aram Zucker-Scharff
Although their statement is basically true, it's also true of Microsoft. The question is, are those technologies successful or not? Any sane person would say that they are not 100% successful. - Jason Huebel
Give me some examples, please! I've had at least 5 virusses on Windows. I have yet to hear of and have a virus on the Mac. - Vincent van Wylick
Sheesh, I always wonder when people talk about getting virus, I've used computers connected to the internet for over 12 years now, and I have never gotten one. Why the hell is it so prevalent? - Mohomed=genieyclo
Mohomed, it's all a matter of safe Internet use. Browsing porn, downloading pirated software, etc all open you up to browser-based or trojan attacks. - Jason Huebel
Good to hear that Apple took the article down. Until there is a viable virus threat spreading in the wild, spending money on antivirus software is about as sensible as flushing money down the toilet and hoping it will save you on sewer repair bills in the future. Fight the problem once it actually exists... - Rob McNair-Huff
yeah, I know where it can come from, but I just can't fathom why people would put themselves at risk for this stuff. there's easy things to do to prevent virii even without antivirus (which i have never used) while still using the dark side of the net. - Mohomed=genieyclo
For the couple of people who don't think threats exist to Mac OSX, I present securemac.com: http://www.securemac.com/ - Jason Huebel
Yea, these days I get security alerts about new Mac viruses all the time. - Aram Zucker-Scharff
So what's a quick way to scan your system for virusses and see if the "scare" has any merit. I still don't believe it's a problem. - Vincent van Wylick

7 Common Mac Myths Exposed | Dumb Little Man

*bzzzt* "windows often requires you to buy expensive software updates".. not really, MS add massive amounts of functionality without charging, what that should say is "microsoft charges lots for its software" which is certainly true, but for updates? Rarely in my 9 years of supporting windows PC's. - alphaxion
I'm covered in tattoos and love Apple products...but this is retarded. - Rich Harris
alphaxion - you're both wrong. Mac users pay more for updates actually, as a new version of OSX comes out every 1.5-2 years and some but not all programs require the latest version. I'd have to say that Microsoft doesn't exactly "add massive amounts of functionality without charging" either. - invariant
invariant: WDS, Sharepoint services, vastly improved wifi config in XP, virtual PC and virtual server, group policy editor MMC, WSUS... I can go on and on, all added without charging more. Admittedly the vast majority of what I mentioned won't be known to people who never managed a windows server but they do add loads without charging. Sadly they charge a bloody fortune for the stuff you do pay for ;) - alphaxion
I also love the double standard.. "Apple supplies everything you ever need application wise", MS does it? Raise an anti-trust! - alphaxion

µTorrent for Mac Released

my flatmate got barred from using the internet for the last 36 hours because a company sent our web provider an email saying he was illegally sharing the firms product via torrent. Watch out! - Zach Landes
Well, that has nothing to do with the client you use (or even torrents themselves) but with what you choose to download and seed. - Akiva Moskovitz

Meh. Transmission has the advantage. - Rick Powell
Azureus/Vuze is java based and runs great on Mac. But I agree micro is micro. - Mihai Tarmure
Not sure why this is so amazing when Transmission has been available for the Mac for quite a while. Native too! - Glenn Batuyong
@Mihai, I used to use Azureus on the Mac, but when they switched to being Vuze, I looked for an alternative. It was far to big and klunky and hard to figure out. I found Transmission and haven't looked back. - Joey Gibson
Vuze is in constant change and the has a lot of power under the hood. Feature wise is among the most advanced clients out there. I agree, for the regular user this says nothing and I accept, because is Java based it tends to eat more resources. I havent had bad experiences with micro torrent on PC and I always recommend it to novice torrent users. The fact that its available for mac is only good news for everyone. - Mihai Tarmure
@Joey Transmission is nice. Too bad some trackers will ban you for using it. Not sure why, but when they put it in their rules not to use it or else, it doesn't give too much latitude for me. Besides, I like the way Vuze looks. I have to agree with @mihai, it is one of the best bittorrent clients out there. - R. Alexander Spoerer

How about just hosting all the music on one of the macs, or on a networked hard drive, then have them all look to that place for the library? You can hold alt when launcing iTunes to select where it's looks for the files. Just an idea. - Simon Wicks
