Has anyone tried that Clarifi case from Lindsay's link? - darodave
Thanks Lindsay, that's definitely going on my Christmas wish-list. Have you tried it yourself? If so, does the lense improve the camera's performance in general or is it only for closer range shots. Would it improve photos of an entire A4 sheet, or is that too far away for the macro lense to be useful? - David Adam
I have an Android G1 phone which has a nice macro function, so I haven't tried the iPhone case myself. Sorry I can't help you there as far as a review! I am thinking about setting up a frame that would hold my regular camera at exactly the right height to take a picture of a letter sized sheet of paper and using that to capture a lot of documents. I think it would be quicker than scanning them and I could just dump the pictures straight into the Evernote drop folder for auto import. - Lindsay Donaghe
I've thought about that myself actually, because my scanner is dead slow. I may enlist my step dad's help as he is a welder. I'm sure he could knock me up a wire stand in no time at all. - David Adam
Try the Clarifi case by Griffin. It incorporated a neat little lens to dramatically increase sharpness when taking pictures if text - Peter van Teeseling
@Peter, have you tried the case yourself? I haven't been able to find anyone who has actually tried it themselves, though it gets great reviews online. Can you tell me whether it would improve the clarity of a photo of an entire A4 page? Or would that be taken from too far away for the lense to work properly? Regardless, its definitely going on my christmas wishlist because its a neat little case. - David Adam
Thanks Peter. Hopefully the A4 test turns out well- the case certainly showed a marked improvement in your flickr photo. - David Adam
@david my schedule changed a bit so the A4 testing won't happen today. Tomorrow morning for sure. UPDATE - just did some testing. Pictures are being processed now by Evernote (I think) - Peter van Teeseling
OK. Did some testing. The iPhone camera is not suited to take a decent picture of an A4 with text. With the Clarifi it will do a great job on parts of the page. For instance a 2 column page can be done per column. Excellent OCR conversion. - Peter van Teeseling
Thanks for testing Peter! Its unfortunate that it doesn't do A4 pictures very well, as I had hoped. It does seem to do quite a good job closer up though, and looks like it would be quite useful for business cards, clips from newspaper articles, book covers or photo'ing a particular part of a page. Oh and probably receipts too? Overall would you recommend it? - David Adam
I would recommend the Clarifi case and Evernote as well. You've just named a couple of use cases I use it for as well. Put it on your wish list and write a letter to Santa! - Peter van Teeseling

Ok I'm going to be honest. That experiment was an epic FAIL. I tried importing the images without doing any further compression than what is done by the camera. I quickly discovered the 40MB free account limit, and it made Evernote *crawl* whenever I tried to access my 'School Reports' notebook. - David Adam
40MB goes fast for high rez pics, yeah. I have a paid account with about 2GB worth of data in it now... I haven't noticed any problems with performance as I add more data. - Lindsay Donaghe
Yeah I wasn't really thinking about the limit when I started the project. Also, it may just be my old, slow computer but whenever I had a note containing 3 or more hi-rez pics (eg a report) it would cause evernote to chug and occasionally lock up or crash. I may try compression, or perhaps making PDFs out of each report, before trying again next month. - David Adam
Its 40MB for the free version, which I discovered when I started importing photos of all my old school reports. It notified me I will lose the ability to add or modify notes or notebooks. I'm hoping that's not the case and I can keep adding stuff, but without it synchronising online. - David Adam

i believe you can change the settings on the notebook to not sync'd, and you should be able to add local notes. same thing happened to me at first, and the popup warning message made it sound like i couldn't add anything more until my quota reset. - Trent Olson
For me, it's indexing PDF images. For example, if I scan something at work, Evernote won't index it. I have to take the intermediate step of doing a snapshot of the PDF to get it to index. Evernote has said on their forums that they plan on adding this functionality though. - Matt
Share in a workgroup. I would like to share with select other Evernote users. - Chris W
Send notes via email in text mode when possible, not always as an attached PDF. - Rubin Sfadj
I wish Evernote worked in landscape mode on my iPhone. - Chris Rodgers
stop hijacking tags with undesired autocomplete as I type them. - Jon Price
Better resolution of business cards when taking them on the iPhone; they come out very blurry :( - Sally Church
Automatic saving when editing Web Notes. Spent lunch working out notes on a project in evernote. Clicked Save and it said "Sorry - Performing Maintenance." Went back and it was all gone - ALL OF IT. If I owned the computer it would've been thrown through the window. - James Hull
I want to be able to edit images once they are in EN. At least, rotate and resize them. But it is cool that the text recognition works even if the image is rotated! - Tony Vota
A reminder (for instance, to remind me that I should read important meeting notes a few hours later). - Peter Ghosh CISSP
share and collaborate on select notes or entire notebooks. In the first case, it would be edits only. In the second, others would be able to add notes as well. - Marnie Webb
Better OCR. Shared would be great as I share a bunch of stuff with the gf in Google Notebook. - Jauder Ho
A more structured flexible todo list like Remember The Milk. That'll force me to switch over to 100% Evernote! - Pras Sarkar
the ability to rotate images in the evernote client - paul
You can do that in the Windows client, Paul. Right click on the picture, choose Picture->Edit. Then click on whichever direction you want in the dialog that pops up under Rotate (or define the angle). There are other editing options there too. - Lindsay Donaghe
Rotating in the Mac client. And OCRing PDFs. - Tim Ostler

I really wish I could automatically import content from RSS feeds. I've been messing about trying to import my tumblr entries via email (RSSfwd) and the results have been rather unsatisfactory. - David Adam
David, I haven't been able to get RSSFwd to work for me either... If you don't mind your RSS feed posts being sent as a daily collection, I'd recommend using FeedBurner like I am (see comments here: http://friendfeed.com/e/4a4a98...). That works pretty well. - Lindsay Donaghe
Thanks for the tip Lindsay. I got Feedburner working but I couldn't stand the formatting; the tumblr feed looked awful after being imported. Maybe I should try importing my FF items instead, that might work out a bit better. - David Adam
check boxes in the windows mobile client - Chris Kasten
Tarpipe now has a connector for Evernote! I am going to use RSSFwd to send my FF posts to it so that they're automatically stored in Evernote too. That way I don't have to worry about "losing" something in the 8 page FF bug. - Lindsay Donaghe
via Bookmarklet
Lindsay, have you had any luck with this yet? - Trent Olson
Not really with Tarpipe. I used FeedBurner and made a feed with an email subscription option out of my FriendFeed feed. Then I subscribed to it. It doesn't do real time updates like I wanted, but grabs everything that was posted in 24 hours and sends in one email. That's better than nothing. I tried forwarding it to my tarpipe workflow but it errored out. :( So I just forwarded it directly to my Evernote email address. That works, but it's not ideal. - Lindsay Donaghe
I got picture posting working after a bit. http://bit.ly/iSKQ It seems that the pipeline is still somewhat fragile as Dropipe failed the first time. Also the OCR seemed not to work that well. - Jauder Ho
@Lindsey I was trying to do something similar to that. I wanted Evernote to archive all of my tumblr entries (my tumblr also aggregates all my FF entries). I ended up using feedmailer to automatically mail tumblr's RSS feed to Evernote. - David Adam
So far the FeedBurner feed has been consistent... I've actually come to appreciate the daily summary instead of individual posts since it captures all the conversation as well. Also made a feed for my Likes/Comments so I get two posts a day to Evernote. Feels a bit more "secure" that my FF participation isn't just falling off the edge of the 8 page cliff anymore. - Lindsay Donaghe
I might try your method, because I haven't been all that satisfied with mine. Also, is there any way to have these emailed/imported feeds automatically tagged or put into specific notebooks? For example a tumblr notebook/tag or a friendfeed notebook/tag. - David Adam
I haven't found a way to auto-tag or have them put in the non-default notebook, David... I've been meaning to post some feedback to the Evernote devs about that. I want that feature too... Fortunately, since I tag everything, it's pretty easy to see those posts and tag them whenever I go back to the client, but it would be nice if it were done automatically, yeah. - Lindsay Donaghe
I agree, having things auto-tagged is a must-have feature. - David Adam
very nice so far! thanks for the update...us WinMo folks don't get much in the age of the iPhone... - Trent Olson
I started using it last night. Is it just me or is there no way to do a saved search so that you just see the contents of 1 notebook? In the recent notes, it is cluttered with my recent delicious import. - Tony Vota
Yes, you can save searches. It's easiest on the web, but you can do it in the clients as well... Perform the search and then look in the left sidebar at the bottom for Saved Searches. Click on the arrow next to it and there should be an option to give your new search a name. - Lindsay Donaghe
“i cannot believe you can't edit styled text on the iphone...in fact i've just spent almost 45 mins trying to figure out what kind of text i can easily copy & paste from another document on my mac and still edit on my iphone...”
