“What do you think about including certification acronyms in the "name" section of LinkedIn? i.e: "John Doe, MCSE, CCIE, CISSP, RHCE, Douchebag, Narcissist"”
September 25 at 5:12 am - Link
As you can see, I'm pretty negative about usage of this crappy designations in the name section. I think it's like shouting "hey! look this is the biggest achievement in my life. passing a lousy exam..." - Berk D. Demir
I have mine PMP, MCSE right in my name. Good for PR, somewhat bad for google indexing of just your name. Personally, I'd avoid the last 2 "credentials you have listed up there! ha, ha! - Susan Beebe (Santa Claus)
On the other hand, I'm indifferent to academic designations. It's OK to use Ph.D suffix or Dr. prefix if the context is relevant... But you don't order pizza like this huh? "Hi. I'm Dr. Sheldon Cooper, double Ph.D!.. I guess I'll order a double mozzarella, extravaganza, thin and crispy please..." - Berk D. Demir
I don't like it. Although I have the number of my connections, it helps in getting more connections. I still don't understand why Linkedin does not tell you the actual number of connections - Julius via twhirl
Thanks for the reply Susan... Do you see a real advantage of PR in your case... Your resume is far impressive and your professional designations are listed below again. I think in your case, these designations shadow your much more important achievements. - Berk D. Demir
I also have a negative attitude towards the use of cert.s in the name section. However, it is also a truth that some of the Ph.D or Dr. suffixes are easier to receive than some of the certifications. But, at the end of the day, from my point of view, in a professional context, it is far more reasonable to add academic designations around the name. - Onur Karaagaoglu
Adding certifications and degrees to the name field seems silly to me. If people want to find see your certification and academic standing, they can look in your profile. As Berk says, I don't tell the pizza person that I'm Dr. Sodeman. - Bill Sodeman

"I never though the day would come that I would see LinkedIn leaving it's status / ego oriented networking strategy but they have indeed (a bit). What has changed? LinkedIn have decided to drop a small but very important aspect of their search tool and to change it towards a new functionality. Once you try it you will no longer be able to search people and rank them towards 'amounts of contacts'. That little but most important item has led LinkedIn towards a fully status oriented network in which only numbers counted these last few years. It was probably necessary to reach a certain amount of people in the network, making it possible to switch to more quality related aspects. They finally have seen the light!" - Vincent Wright via Bookmarklet

"Though this is clearly the most important Presidential Election I can remember since Kennedy versus Nixon in 1960, in my opinion, professional networkers can't afford to be political bashers. No matter how eloquent nor how vicious the Campaigns for the 2 major Political Parties behave from now through November 4th, YOU as a Linkedin member MUST remember that the network you've worked so intensely to develop to 500 or to 5,000 or more members consists of Democrats AND Independents AND Republicans. Almost none of us have networks online nor offline that is completely devoid of members whose political parties/views differ from ours. Likewise with our friends and families." - Vincent Wright via Bookmarklet
