"The United States Department of Defense (DoD) accelerated its own move to IPv6-enabled technology and set 2008 as the target year for completion of the process. Major software vendors have had to fulfill specific requirements and validate their products against the Defense Information System Agency's IPv6 Special Interoperability Certification in order to avoid being excluded from DoD procurements. The DoD made certification mandatory in June." - imabonehead via Bookmarklet
"According to the Linux Foundation, the most popular enterprise Linux distributions now meet the DoD's standards. The foundation's IPv6 workgroup was led by Venkata Jagana, IBM's chief architect of linux networking. IBM was an early participant in the Internet Engineering Task Force's efforts to devise IPv6 and implemented the protocol in its own AIX UNIX operating system in 1997. They began contributing to Linux's IPv6 development efforts a few years later. " - imabonehead

"If simply counting which operating system was in first place most frequently, it would be Ubuntu. Ubuntu 8.10 x86_64 was in first place eight times, OpenSolaris 2008.11 RC2 was in first place seven times, and FreeBSD 7.1 Beta 2 AMD64 was in first just three tests. Depending upon your system usage, one operating system may appear more favorable, like OpenSolaris with the greater disk performance. To reiterate though, all of the testing was done on a single workstation-oriented system with dual quad-core processors and 4GB of RAM. FreeBSD and OpenSolaris were also using their latest testing builds while Ubuntu was using a final release copy. We do plan, however, to deliver more operating systems benchmarks in the future to look at these final release versions on different hardware. Thanks to the Phoronix Test Suite, we could also throw in Mac OS X again and have a heated four-way comparison." - ☂Marcos Marado

"When Adobe decided it was time to start work on a 64-bit Flash Player, they didn't release the first test version on Windows or Mac OS X. No, they released it on Linux and Solaris. Wow." That is totally awesome about Adobe. They actually do care about their Linux users. - imabonehead via Bookmarklet
I wished they'd devote some time to sorting out Flash's dire performance on the Mac before releasing 64-bit versions. I'd just like a small and quick 32-bit version thanks. - Paul Grav

"Starting to answer the clamorous demand from open-source fans, Adobe Systems plans to release an alpha version of its Flash Player technology on Monday for those using 64-bit Linux software. The company plans to release the software at its Adobe Max conference in San Francisco." - imabonehead via Bookmarklet

It works for me on Fedora 9 so far. But the 32 bit with wrapper crashes sometimes, so I need to play with this new 64 bit longer to see if this is awesome or not. - Yu-Jie Lin

At least the video worked for me when testing some random video on Youtube's site, but then I'm running Fedora9 x86_64 as a vmware guest instance. How I installed it is: $ sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins , restarted Firefox, and on the location bar, type: about:plugins to check if the plugin is loaded. - imabonehead
One more thing I just noticed that the microphone is working, never got it worked on Fedora. Not sure if this is related. - Yu-Jie Lin
