“saw "appaloosa" recently and loved the acting, the script, and that ridiculously huge shotgun viggo carted around for most of the film. seriously, it's a freaking cannon. anyone who's seen "eastern promises" knows he doesn't need that kind of compensation.”

the dialogue seemed closer to "butch cassidy" than "unforgiven" - there was a lot of clever repartee between the two main actors, which was awesome. the only major downside? renee zellweger. she looked terrible, to the point where it was hard to believe how ed harris' character could possibly have fallen for her. even the prostitute was more attractive. - Jessie

'Fireproof' review: "In the history of marital discord in the movies, has there ever been a blander conflict than the one between firefighter Kirk Cameron and his goodly wife Erin Bethea in the dismal Christian-themed melodrama Fireproof?" - Kelly Norris via Bookmarklet
"Cameron acts like a childish jerk, even in the reconciliation phase, and the underlying reason is that he—and the movie—hates women. When he consults his father (Harris Malcom) and his mother (Phyllis Malcom) about his failing marriage, he gets so enraged by her attempt to give advice that he kicks her out of the room and consults his father directly. Dad advises him to hold off on the divorce and gives him a book called "The Love Dare," a 40-day, baby steps program to win back his wife." - Kelly Norris
"The best he can do on Day 40+ is bring his ailing wife a damp cloth and a bag full of Chik-Fil-A. What a catch!" - Kelly Norris
I wanted to see this movie seeing as how Mike Seaver rarely acts (go figure it's Christian-themed)... it had showings Friday. I went to check the times Saturday, and it wasn't in the theaters anymore! - Krista K

“Recently saw "Man on Wire", a fine documentary about the Frenchman who in the early 1970s strung a rope between the twin towers of the World Trade Center...then walked it. Excellent movie about the event and all the illegal shenanigans leading up to it!”

Bangkok Dangerous - 3.5/5
September 15 at 2:19 pm - via Bookmarklet - Link
Went to see this Friday. I'd probably give it a 3.5/5. There were some good parts and the general plot was decent. Cage's acting seemed similar to his performance in Lord of War. Nothing was outstanding. It seemed a bit like Wanted without the crazy effects to an extent (and with a more mundane and generic plot). - Brandon Titus via Bookmarklet

"A cute, imaginary story, with cute, imaginary people, sure. Then it could be reviewed as another lightweight piece of entertainment, sort of like a generic bottle of jug wine — nothing serious, but OK for a picnic. After all, “Bottle Shock” was formula-plotted — made quickly to be out by the harvest and to beat out the pending movie that features the real story from Taber’s book, “Judgment in Paris.”" - Anne Bouey via Bookmarklet
The movie was fun to watch, especially in a Sonoma Valley theater with a running audience commentary that rivaled the onscreen dialogue. Now, I'll have to see it again at home with a Napa Valley audience! - Anne Bouey

Best trailer I've seen in a long time; sells itself almost wholly with the visuals. Seems like one of those musical score hack-jobs though where they use pre-existing music before the until has finished scoring. Anyone know what the music is from? - Steve Isaacs via Bookmarklet
oh damn- Robin called it : http://graphicsoul.com/the-cur... - Steve Isaacs
Yeah the trailer is pretty cool but it seems to be completely different from the short story. This isn't a bad thing, the short story was extremely short and doens't have enough material to stretch it into a movie. Hopefully they'll be able to do what they did to bigfish to this one. - Jacob
um looks like a tear jerker in the making... - Ruth Ferguson
this sounds like an Amazing Stories episode... I miss that show. - Nathan Chase

Watched this movie the other day, and I liked it a lot even though it was rather predictable. However when I got home and read some reviews and descriptions of the movie almost all of them contained scenes that werent' in the movie I saw. Apparently quite a bit was hacked off of this movie since it was originally shown at Sundance. The reviews for this movie are mostly poor, but just now I've checked some again and it seems that more and more people are reviewing this movie after having seen the editied version and giving it better scores. - Jacob

I just finished watching 21 last night and I read all these negative reviews about the movie but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I know it went all hollywood but it was entertaining and that is exactly what I came for. Anyone else enjoy the movie? I get a feeling that most hate it because they've read the book or perhaps it's the controversy of putting white actors/actresses instead of asian actors.

Sorry noiseriver allows you to write more than you should so my text got cut off, "I get a feeling that most hate it because they've read the book or perhaps it's the controversy of putting white actors/actresses instead of asian actors." - Michael Narciso
I am a gambler, so I understood the limitations Hollywood would have with the story to make into a watchable film. I still enjoyed it because, hey, its Vegas baby and its got pretty people. A documentary it's not. - Eric @ CS Techcast
I enjoyed it enough to make me interested in reading the book. - Anne Bouey

“Loved The Dark Knight”

Didn't like it - felt it was extremely overrated, I was actually bored for the last 30 minutes. The Joker was fantastic though. - Steve Isaacs
Overall, liked the movie, could have done without Maggie Gyllenhal and Batman's voice. Was surprised at how modern and current the backgrounds were in this one. Batman Forever had darker imagery. Really liked the Joker and Two Face. - Mike Cornell
Exposing the darker sides of human nature (to the extreme) = All sorts of win! - Mona N.
Yes- it actually lived up to the hype. Brilliantly cast down to the cameos. Thoughtful script. Great camera movement. Agree about Bale's voice though - he wasn't that raspy in the first one, was he? (Still, he's a fairly brilliant actor.) - Abby Martin

Tropic Thunder (2008)
August 16 at 3:35 pm - via Bookmarklet - Link
I saw it three weeks ago; I thought it had 6 or 7 very funny moments, but it seemed the plots purpose was just to get from one joke to the next. My vietnam vet dad liked it a great deal and I had wondered if the bad vietnam movie parody in the opening would be too hard for him. It wasn't. - RAPatton
Not nearly as funny as it could have been. The film hangs on a flimsy premise I never quite bought into. (when are the actors in character and when are they being themselves?) The film does take an equal opportunity stance to offend everyone which yields a handful of big laughs. But as the film spins further into action-heavy absurdity, there are long stretches where you want to be laughing and aren't. - Cory
Finally caught it and really liked the truly absurd potty humor. Jack Black with the "balls, shaft, and gravy" line had me snorking my soda. Good mindless fun for a couple of hours with very little residual effect. Exactly what I had in mind. - Mike Cornell

“saw the french murder mystery "tell no one." hurry up and see it before hollywood discovers how awesome it is, makes its own version by ripping out everything creative and original about the french one, and dumps the gutted celluloid carcass in your local movie theater.”

kristin scott thomas was great in this! - Jessie
Her French is impeccable. And the film was a real gem- great twists and turns. When I saw it, the audience was riveted- not a sound in the theatre aside from the film. - Abby Martin

“WALL-E = Big disappointment for me. Love the Pixars. Favorites are: Incred., Cars a close 2nd, then Nemo. Down the line comes Monsters Inc., then Wall-E. Didn't care about robot. Wanted to. Didn't. So with all the Pixariffication, the first half was almost depressing. 2nd half got better.”

Wow. So not with you on this one. I loved Wall-E, and loved the first half, and the second didn't like as much. My Pixar: 1) Incredibles, 2) Wall-E, 3) Bug's Life 4) Nemo 5) Monsters (Didn't see Cars). - Steve Isaacs
