Chrome is the OS. Why bother writing device drivers, etc. when you can use whatever host OS the computer provides. The real action is in the browser and in the plugins. - Lars Trieloff

The old OS is responsible for abstracting from the hardware and giving a framework to run the software. The new OS just abstracts from the hardware and TCP/IP. - Lars Trieloff
