Harper's letter to the Governor General of September 9, 2004
Monday at 4:48 pm - via Bookmarklet - Link
"As leaders of the opposition parties, we are well aware that, given the Liberal minority government, you could be asked by the Prime Minister to dissolve the 38th Parliament at any time should the House of Commons fail to support some part of the government’s program. We respectfully point out that the opposition parties, who together constitute a majority in the House, have been in close consultation. We believe that, should a request for dissolution arise this should give you cause, as constitutional practice has determined, to consult the opposition leaders and consider all of your options before exercising your constitutional authority. Your attention to this matter is appreciated." -- signed Gilles Duceppe, Jack Layton and Stephen Harper - Chuck LeDuc Díaz via Bookmarklet

“You know what I've found can be the worst "supportive" thing to say when someone comes out? "I know." It's such a disorienting time and to finally come out to someone after having struggled through the realization (not everyone struggles) to have them be blase about it can really hurt the process.”

not always. it helps some folks know that it didnt really bother the person who says they knew. it should be trivial, lots more people will be happy when its trivial. - Amber aka SDA
Reminds me of a grandmother of a previous g/f... "I know, I know... Have some soup." - Mark VandenBerg
Amber: agreed. What I wish is that if people supposedly know, they would try to approach the person. Sometimes, you can save someone the agony and pain of wondering what they're gonna do and how they're gonna be received, if you tell them you think they're gay. But then again, I'm totally biased on this subject. LOL - g. warbucks

Paris's booksellers under threat
November 29 at 2:58 pm - via Bookmarklet - Link
"They salvaged books from raids on aristocrats' libraries during the French revolution and hid resistance material during the Nazi occupation. Paris's bouquinistes - the hundreds of booksellers whose open-air stalls along the river Seine carry Unesco world heritage status - have survived four centuries of censorship, floods and political upheaval. But now they are under threat from a new enemy: cheap, plastic Eiffel towers. Bouquinistes' sales have dived as their carefully collected stocks of rare and out-of-print books face competition from online dealers and a change in Parisians' reading and shopping habits. Many now sell tourist trinkets to stay afloat, cramming their stalls with souvenirs. But Paris city hall, alarmed that the garish knick-knacks are damaging Paris's "cultural landscape", has launched a battle to protect the literary soul of the banks of the Seine. Bouquinistes have been invited to crisis talks at the city hall in an attempt to promote more intellectual merchandise. But some warn th" - RAPatton via Bookmarklet

“One of our cats likes to watch us eat. Not because she wants what we're having but because she cannot comprehend why in the hell we'd be eating such stinky-assed food.”

And what is that stick thing you have in your hand? Why bother with it? Just eat right off the plate! Silly human. - Yolanda
My cat likes to peek in while I'm taking a bath. She's thinking "What... are... you... doing? The water is ALL OVER you!" - Denton Gentry
Our dog can't comprehend why we don't just put our plates on the floor and let her have the food... She thinks it smells like the best thing in the whole wide world. In fact,if you take some kibble out of her bowl and then hand it to her she'll eat it like it's the best cuisine she could hope for, but the other stuff in the bowl you haven't touched... that's the last resort. - Lindsay Donaghe
The cat that Akiva is talking about also won't eat food in her bowl that has been sitting there for a few hours. You have to pick it up, turn your back, and pretend to "stir" it or something to make her think you're putting new food in the bowl. Then she'll eat it like it's brand new food. - Rochelle
Cats are funny! I totally have LOLcat block though; I need some inspiration. - sofarsoshawn
LOL! Our dog is the same way... and she must have her water refreshed as well. Most of the time she doesn't want us to see her eat and waits until the middle of the night when she thinks we're asleep because she wants us to think she never does and is starving so we'll feed her table scraps. - Lindsay Donaghe
