"Tesla is NOT asking for a loan to build the Roadster. They are asking for a loan to build a second, family-friendly, $60,000 version of the car called the Model S." ... "Only the rich can afford a $60,000 car? Really?" - Surely he can't be serious with this defense. - Russell Holliman via Bookmarklet
I don't think the majority of Americans can afford to bailout a company that's cheapest car will be $60k, let alone the fact that they haven't even built it yet. - Lindsey
It was funny watching Calacanis crowdsource ideas on Twitter for that rambling mess. Even at $60k, the Model S is still twice as expensive as the median U.S. car purchase -- for the few who are buying these days. I wish Tesla the best, but they'd be wise to remain in the cars-for-the-gentry-class market. Nissan is coming with all-electrics soon, and they'll build more that 15 a week. - Chris Baskind
Forget $60k... I love that he thinks 80% of Americans can afford a $40k car. It's astonishing how out of touch the man can be. - Roger Benningfield
i hope this is a joke - SoN9ne
Yes, only the rich can afford a $60,000 car. A household is considered affluent when it has an annual income of more than $75,000, which is just 25% more than the cost of that danged car. I don't know much about how to figure out how much car one can afford, but I'm thinking that kind of purchase just isn't sensible (if possible) for anyone close to the affluence level, let alone below it. - MiɳiMagɘ (AlwaysMiniMage)
His rebuttal would carry more weight if he wasn't so buddy-buddy with the Tesla guy. http://valleywag.com/358015/in... - Sprague D

I've never sledded before. It didn't snow much in Mississippi, where I grew up. I also didn't live around any hills. The closest I came to enjoying this experience was sliding into a ditch on a cardboard box on one of our exceedingly rare days of accumulation. I've seriously got to do this the right way before I get too old. - MiɳiMagɘ (AlwaysMiniMage)

Steve Jobs: We Still Haven't Figured Out The Living Room (AAPL)
October 22 at 11:57 pm - via Bookmarklet - Link
"Like what? We still think the Apple TV would benefit from a DVD drive -- people still own/rent a lot of DVDs, and then the Apple TV would be able to replace something in the living room, not just add to the mess of cords. And we think opening the gadget up to video beyond Apple's iTunes store and YouTube -- sites like Hulu, MLB.TV, ABC/NBC/CBS/Fox, or any Flash/Silverlight-enabled video on the Web -- would be a smart, harmless move." - Thomas Hawk via Bookmarklet
Thomas, add the DVD player and the ability to see content from Hulu, etc. And I'll buy one today. - Michael Pardee
It'd be nice if they did do that but it'd go against Apple's "buy all your stuff from us!" policy. - Timothy Griffin
I totally agree. I don't even need a DVD player. I can use my xbox for those. Just let it watch web video and surf the net. - gfurry
There's probably more of a chance that Hulu, MLB.TV, and the networks will succumb and sell their content on iTunes than there is of Apple opening things up. After all, they never bothered opening up the iPod to other content providers, and it's still the #1 portable music device. - Victor Ganata
http://www.tuaw.com/2008/10/01... - You can install Boxee on your Apple TV and watch Hulu shows. But, yeah, it should be Apple offering this functionality out of the box. - Carlos Granier-Phelps
I connected a Mac mini to the livingroom tv a few months before Apple TV came out, but I am happy with it. Front Row, Hulu (full-screen looks good), DVD, and support for my old set - don't you need an HD set for Apple TV? - Russell Holliman
Russell: yeah, I think a HD TV is needed. I think I'd rather got down the Mac mini route to be honest, much as I'd like an Apple TV. - Timothy Griffin
I'm pretty happy with the job that my XBox 360s do as media center extenders. - Thomas Hawk
I need a better strategy. I use an XBox 360 and Connect 360 to extend content from my Macs to the TV, but I'd really like to be able to control it with the iPhone Remote Application. - Tom Harrison
A lot of folks saying that they use their XBOX or PS3 for media center stuff - don't count that out for Apple - Jobs could be looking at that market right now for all we know. Heck a few years ago if you said Apple would have sold ~7m phones in one quarter I would have laughed at you. - www.MarketSaw.com
