"Tesla is NOT asking for a loan to build the Roadster. They are asking for a loan to build a second, family-friendly, $60,000 version of the car called the Model S." ... "Only the rich can afford a $60,000 car? Really?" - Surely he can't be serious with this defense. - Russell Holliman

I don't think the majority of Americans can afford to bailout a company that's cheapest car will be $60k, let alone the fact that they haven't even built it yet. - Lindsey
It was funny watching Calacanis crowdsource ideas on Twitter for that rambling mess. Even at $60k, the Model S is still twice as expensive as the median U.S. car purchase -- for the few who are buying these days. I wish Tesla the best, but they'd be wise to remain in the cars-for-the-gentry-class market. Nissan is coming with all-electrics soon, and they'll build more that 15 a week. - Chris Baskind
Forget $60k... I love that he thinks 80% of Americans can afford a $40k car. It's astonishing how out of touch the man can be. - Roger Benningfield

Yes, only the rich can afford a $60,000 car. A household is considered affluent when it has an annual income of more than $75,000, which is just 25% more than the cost of that danged car. I don't know much about how to figure out how much car one can afford, but I'm thinking that kind of purchase just isn't sensible (if possible) for anyone close to the affluence level, let alone below it. - MiɳiMagɘ (AlwaysMiniMage)
His rebuttal would carry more weight if he wasn't so buddy-buddy with the Tesla guy. http://valleywag.com/358015/in... - Sprague D
