I don't think the majority of Americans can afford to bailout a company that's cheapest car will be $60k, let alone the fact that they haven't even built it yet. - Lindsey

It was funny watching Calacanis crowdsource ideas on Twitter for that rambling mess. Even at $60k, the Model S is still twice as expensive as the median U.S. car purchase -- for the few who are buying these days. I wish Tesla the best, but they'd be wise to remain in the cars-for-the-gentry-class market. Nissan is coming with all-electrics soon, and they'll build more that 15 a week. - Chris Baskind

Yes, only the rich can afford a $60,000 car. A household is considered affluent when it has an annual income of more than $75,000, which is just 25% more than the cost of that danged car. I don't know much about how to figure out how much car one can afford, but I'm thinking that kind of purchase just isn't sensible (if possible) for anyone close to the affluence level, let alone below it. - MiɳiMagɘ (AlwaysMiniMage)
