Turn off the stuff you don't need. I'm still playing with "Power Manager" & "Toggle Settings" to see which one works best, but they make it really easy to turn stuff on & off. I doubt you need GPS, Wifi & 3G on at night? (on the other hand, you're right that the run time is low... my old phone easily lasted 10 days on a charge... ) - John Mueller
Thanks for the tips John ... I'll have to give them a try. I used to complain about my iPhone 3G but it ran GPS, WiFi & 3G at night, and still gave me at least 24 hours of battery life. After dealing with G1 (which died on me yesterday at 4pm ... it was on 100% charge at 8am!) I can't complain about my iPhone anymore. - Vinoaj Vijeyakumaar
I don't know if the new firmware (I got RC30 yesterday) changes anything, but I recharged mine last night and it's currently at 80% (after ca 12 hrs now). I've got wifi turned on since this morning, played with it on 3G during the train ride to the office. I do have sync & stuff like that turned off though (it's fast enough when I check mail manually, I don't need to be paged because of email :P ). - John Mueller
Now that's promising news. How did you get the new firmware? Did the phone just auto-update or did you have to initiate it somehow? - Vinoaj Vijeyakumaar
It just automatically updated (sent me a popup asking if I wanted to update nor or later). FWIW it was at 51% after 24 hrs :). I heard that especially the auto-sync features (which I have turned off) are real battery killers. - John Mueller
It's OK ... yet another mobile twitter client. UI is sometimes a little slow to respond, but I think that's more to do with Android rather than the app. - Vinoaj Vijeyakumaar
How would you compare it to the web version? Is it worth fiddling with an extra app or does the web version get you 90% there? - John Mueller
@Adam For branding FAIL check out Ringdroid (create ringtones from recorded sounds) - now that just conjures up images of hemorrhoids and the ring cushion people carry around ... plain wrong - Vinoaj Vijeyakumaar
@John Web version definitely gets you 90% there ... i prefer a dedicated client because it's (a) usually faster, (b) can incorporate your location into your tweet, (c) has integrated picture support too (eg you can take a pic and tweet about it - pics hosted on twitpic or one of those types of services), and (d) its easier to manage your twitter experience. Twitdroid is a free app - so no harm in installing it and testing it out. - Vinoaj Vijeyakumaar
