"It is dramatically fascinating, however, to witness these men literally getting hell beat out of them by the media and Congress while the Wall Street honchos -- the crew who Henry Paulson has fed billions to over the past few weeks without next-to-no accounting, accountability or demand for modifying their business practices -- remain out-of-sight and out-of-mind." - Vox

An imperfect body might be just what the doctor ordered for women and key to their economic success, an anthropologist now says.
While pop culture seems to worship the hourglass figure for females, with a tiny waist, big breasts and curvy hips à la Marilyn Monroe, this may not be optimal, says anthropologist Elizabeth Cashdan of the University of Utah. - Shevonne Polastre

Please tell me that the ideal figure is my fertility goddess look. Please? - Anika Malone
how i decode it is that 1) the hourglass figure is linked to a perception of fertility, and this might not be the best perception to succeed in careers (anyone surprised here? i'd guess the more infertile you look the more likely they might hire you, there's so much pregnancy paranoia) 2) women who have higher than average testosterone do better in a male dominated business world as they will have the kind of drive and more assertiveness. Tends to go with a straighter waist. but 3) too much assertiveness threatens in a woman so curvier/motherly versions are preferred to "tone" it down? - Joelle Nebbe
"Pelosi and Reid declared that the American people "deserve to see a plan that is accountable to taxpayers and that is viable for the long-term," with "significant sacrifices and major changes to [the automakers'] way of doing business." These sound conditions should be applied to the federal budget as well. Unfortunately, though, there is no special guardian of future generations to make such demands. That job belongs to our elected leaders. They, too, must demonstrate significant sacrifices and major changes to their way of doing business. After all, they share responsibility for the nation's future just as the Big Three executives share responsibility for the future of the auto industry." - MikeAmundsen

"So Obama’s head honcho Rahm Emanuel got involved and called her back. She promptly hung up on him too. ”I thought it was one of the radio stations in South Florida playing an incredible, elaborate, terrific prank on me,” Ros-Lehtinen told the Miami Herald. “They got Fidel Castro to go along. They’ve gotten Hugo Chavez and others to fall for their tricks. I said, ‘Oh, no, I won’t be punked’.”" - RefD
"In a highly unusual move, U.S. Associate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has asked his colleagues on the court to consider the request of an East Brunswick, N.J. attorney who has filed a lawsuit challenging President-elect Barack Obama’s status as a United States citizen.
Thomas’s action took place after Justice David Souter had rejected a petition known as an application for a stay of writ of certiorari that asked the court to prevent the meeting of the Electoral College on Dec. 15, which will certify Obama as the 44th president of the United States and its first African-American president.
The court has scheduled a Dec. 5 conference on the writ -- just 10 days before the Electoral College meets.
The high court’s only African American is bringing the matter to his colleagues as a result of the writ that was filed by attorney Leo Donofrio. Donofrio sued the New Jersey Secretary of State Nina Wells, contending that Obama was not qualified to be on the state’s presidential ballot because of D" - Vox

This is the same guy that claims his Ivy League Law School diploma is worthless because of the taint of Affirmative Action. Self-loathing FTL... - Mark VandenBerg
The diploma isn't worthless (employers will pay you good money just for having the school's name on that piece of paper), but the actual education certainly is. Opinion withheld as to whether affirmative action has a role in that worthlessness. - Brian Chang
"Here is a quick behind the scenes look at the Canon 5D MKII - mounted on a Steadicam. This is a project that involves both video and stills, one that I’ll be working on for the foreseeable future with the Acroback group - a group that amongst quite a few things, is expert in the art of Parkour. Wanted to share this quick peak with you all." - Vox

"The lonely wanderer, who watches by the seashore the waves that roll between him and his home, talks of cruel facts, material barriers that, just because they are material, and not ideal, shall be the irresistible foes of his longing heart." ~ Josiah Royce - Matt Musgrave
"Samsung introduced five large touchscreen displays meant for public use, such as presentations and terminals at mass transit. Using similar sizes and resolutions to HDTVs, the 32-inch 320TSn, 40-inch 400TSn, 46-inch 460TSn, 70-inch 700Tsn and 82-inch 820TSn all work in either portrait or landscape mode and also support a unique MagicInfo feature that lets the owner manage several displays at once, such as when they play a multi-screen video. The panels don't have publicly listed prices and are primarily meant for business, but should be available worldwide in the near future and work with both computers and traditional video sources" - Cee Bee

"No, this is not some vaporous design concept. It's the Cowon S9 Curve, a portable media player that will actually be available in the U.S. sometime this month. Setting it apart is its 3.3-inch AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) touchscreen, the sharpest and most-efficient screen tech to date. With its 480 x 272 widescreen resolution, it should be a tack-sharp display, especially at that small size. While we'll probably just keep using our iPhones for video and audio on the go, the curved sexiness of the Cowon S9 is tempting. Adding more fuel to our desire is its dual-core 500MHz processor inside, a choice of 8GB or 16GB capacities, voice recorder, Bluetooth, and even an FM radio. Add to that its AMOLED screen of the future and Cowon's usually reasonable pricing, and this could be a big winner, putting serious pressure on the Archos players, and especially the iPod Touch" - Cee Bee

"He's only 9, but this pint-sized pickup artist already knows plenty about pleasing the ladies. So much, in fact, that Alec Greven's dating primer, "How to Talk to Girls" - which began as a handwritten, $3 pamphlet sold at his school book fair - hit the shelves nationwide last week. The fourth-grader from Castle Rock, Colo., advises Lothario wannabes to stop showing off, go easy on the compliments to avoid looking desperate - and be wary of "pretty girls."
"It is easy to spot pretty girls because they have big earrings, fancy dresses and all the jewelry," he writes in Chapter Three.
