"Though there’s no way to tell if their survey was accurate, the magazine says men in the U.K. find a size 12 to be ideal, whereas women think a size 8 is the right size to be (the average national body size there is 14)." - edythe

Honestly .. I don't care about size.... just the shape ;) - JCB
There is a great line in Pulp Fiction, "It is unfortunate, what we find pleasing to the touch and pleasing to the eye are seldom the same." - Anna Haro
Honestly i think the size 16 is the sexiest no joke. Very curvy, very hot. - Zod the Shodai Taiyoukage
I wonder, how are they are all so well proportioned? I'm 6' size 6 jeans 10 dress , work out, and don't look that nice nekkid. I must need mood lighting. - Heather Solos
Tad++, I think most women have that there body dismorphic disorder. They think they're fat no matter how many ribs they can see. - ♫ Rahsheen ™ ★
The only two body types that turn me off are overly obese and horrifyingly skinny. Other than that it's all good. - Tad, TV's Patrick Duffy
To quibble, the actual "study" was a survey asking men what size their partner currently is, and the average answer was a 12. It's not their ideal size, it's the size they're with (on average). - Marina Martin
via Posty
That picture is totally inaccurate. I'm a size 8 and my body does not photograph as thin as the size 8 in the photo. She looks more like a 4 or a 6 to me. - Jennifer Van Grove
via twhirl
marina, wow. that's not a quibble! well, that was totally misrepresented, then. Jennifer Van Grove: I guess it also depends on tallness....but I, too, was thinking that the sizes skewed thin in that picture. - edythe
I think the moral of the story is: anyone looks attractive as long as they've got the right makeup, glamor lighting, and are shot from the right angle! Feh! - Andy DeSoto
Of course, it's more than body type which makes a woman (or a man, for that matter) attractive. Smart is very slimming. - Chris Baskind
A UK size 8 is about a US 4 or 6. The thing that needs to be considered is height and proportion. Its all well and good saying size 12 is the ideal size - for some women, yes, it certainly is. For myself its overweight. For others it would be too thin. I like Tad's comment: "The only two body types that turn me off are overly obese and horrifyingly skinny. Other than that it's all good." That allows for all the differences in height and physique and still allows us all to feel good :) - Patricia Hanrahan
Does Size Matter ?? Personally...I really don't care as long as they are proportionate and sexy looking... i.e Bust, Waist, Hips ratio's :)- - Peter Dawson
Chris: Smart, yes, but being a know-it-all is fattening! ;) - Andy DeSoto
That's why I can't get a date, Andy. - Chris Baskind
Maybe it's where I live (Miami) but guys definitely want girls who are thin and in shape. I think there is even more pressure down here than most places because it's the land of the beautiful people -- most people focus on the superficial -- and since it's ridiculously hot outside you can't hide underneath layers of clothes. I would say that almost all of the women I know (myself included) have body dismorphic disorder. - Corie "Viper" Jones
@Corie, I had to google that term to figure out what "body dismorphic disorder." is .. ahhhh thats what I love about FF .. the amount of knowledge and new stuff that one gets . everyday at every min of interaction here :)- - Peter Dawson
I realize it's a cliche, but everybody has their own type of beauty. It definitely bothers me to see people (mostly ladies) beating themselves up because they don't look like some mutant model. That being said, Curvy FTW. - ha3rvey
All of this talk about the variations in women's clothing sizes makes me happy I'm a guy. - David Worrell
Why must this image be showing up every time I refresh my FriendFeed! It's awfully distracting! - Andy DeSoto
Celebrate the variety of beauty in the human body - Angie
What a great, sexy, conversation. I will do my part to help keep it bumped up to the top. - Pete Delucchi
Holy Photoshop airbrushing, Batman! I am fairly certain that 95% of size 8's in the UK do not photograph nearly as lovely as the 8 in that picture. But then again, how you photograph isn't the most important thing about one's looks. - Jennie Lin
Agreed about the airbrushing!! I've been all of those sizes and *never* looked as "smooth and taught" as those women...lol. Hell, I've been a size 4 and not looked that perfectly skinned. - Lucretia Pruitt
58% of those men who answered about their ladies' sizes said they didn't want the women to drop/lose any dress sizes. Sounds like more than half of them did think their mates were ideal. I don't know what dress size I wear; I find dresses are not practical for crawling under people's desks. - MiɳiMagɘ (AlwaysMiniMage)

I'm an Asian. Know a lot of 0 (-2) types because the whole population in China/Japan looks anorexic by US standards. When I traveled as a guy to Taiwan (30" waist), I had problems finding any pants to fit me (I was too big...) and had to get the largest ones they offered. Personally I prefer athletic women - size 0 or 8 doesn't matter to me, but fitness level does. Size 16 probably won't work, unless you're a shotputter/rugby player. If you can hike Yosemite for 12 hrs/day, that's more fun... - Mitchell Tsai
I don't think size 8 is a woman's ideal, it's what the fashion magazines have brainwashed women into believing. I find both Anna and Caroline sexy. I've always liked full figured women. - Paul
via twhirl
I prefer thin (i.e. none of the above). It's not a very popular preference in super-sized America, but I'll just have to live with it I guess. - Anthony Citrano
Interesting photo and cool comments! I have always been a size 6-8 with a big butt / med sized bust, but recently I've plumped up to a size 10 and get a lot MORE looks now than in the past! I think it's the bigger boobs!! surprise, guys love boobs, especially with a butt! ha, ha!! laughing at myself!! - Susan Beebe (Santa Claus)
anthony citrano: thin is "none of the above"? the middle woman is not what you would consider thin? - edythe
it's about proportion. fuller bodied women rock my world if i may be so bold to admit, but it's even nicer when they love themselves. that's extra attractive. - Cee Bee
My question is: perfect for what? The female body isn't a single-purpose tool. Some women have bodies born and sculpted to look great in nekkid pictures, some are athletic, some are flexible, some are soft, and so on. I can think of scenarios in which each of the three would be perfect, and situations where none of them would be. I'm not trying to be sloppily "everyone is beautiful" here... it's just that "perfect" is way too broad a term to be used without context. - Roger Benningfield
Loic: I feel the same way to a certain extent. I think that people need variety and some longer form stimulation. I just bought a HARD COVER BOOK on Michelangelo and his subversive work on the Cistine Chapel. Its refreshing to read more than 140 characters at a time. It's all about balance. I don't think that the quality has gone down with online writing as much as after a while it all just seems the same. Online I feel well informed, but give me a good book and I feel like I really learn. old school. - Scott Lockhart
Funny you said that. I want on unplugged vacations (i.e., no blogs, no social networks, no IM, no mail) for about 2 weeks. It was so good. I needed to flush out my brain. - fbrunel
When you come back online, you see some things quite differently. - fbrunel
Rather than information overload, it feels more like information tolerance. Like when you eat nothing but chocolate for a while, and at first it's great but it gets very old very fast. Same thing happens with all things web: getting a new information source resets your palette. - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
i find that my own writing is boring, too. focusing on video is helping me find a fresh voice. - Alex Williams
as laurent wolf "no stress" song... i don wanna work today, may be i just wanna stay, just take it easy cause there s no stress" :) - webosapien (Burcu Tüzün)
I like many of the non-domestic commercials and think we Yanks are too prudish on the whole. But this? This is crude at best. And it was tough to deem crude worthy of use. - Michael W. May
well damn. what country is this commercial aired in? - Cee Bee
It's my understanding that the guy that made this did so on his own and that it wasn't an "official" commercial. - Michelle Martinez
Please let me know the location of the McDonalds where you saw any indication of skill or precision. 'Cuz around here it's like "Check your order yourself. Every time." - Brian Norwood
I found this earlier this year and tried it. It works well enough. - Kamilah Gill
Cute? Look how CRAZY the stacking is.. wow - Mona N.
Mona: They had a free toy exhibit in Chicago when I was last there, and I was doing this stuff with the jenga-style games, trying to see how big an overhang I could get with the blocks, and what funky geometric shapes I could get. Oh yeah. FREE pinball games. Was hanging out there for hours and hours! There's some really incredible stuff with the installation artists. My cousin Jack Huang http://messymix.com gets invited to Barcelona, Japan, etc... to do funky stuff. Oh, the life of an artist... - Mitchell Tsai
I can't even get two pennies to stack on top of one another, let alone $5 worth. - l0ckergn0me
Love to try this with $20 gold pieces. :-) - Mitchell Tsai
When one of my friends made her first $1 million, she took the money from the bank (~75 lbs) laid in all over her bed, and rolled in it! Wish I had pics from that... (Hmm... I might e-mail her to see if she took any that she's willing to share.) She's ED for a major non-profit in India now. Her romance website for women didn't take off in the Internet 1.0 boom, and she shifted to social venture work. Started a merchant bank in Russia, women health company in Texas, sold life insurance, did VC, aggressive roller-blader. Creative lady! - Mitchell Tsai
Never even knew those existed... thanks for sharing : ) - Mona N.
Mona: The bi-annual Bienalle in Venice is incredible. Funky artists for all over the world. I think you'd be at home there. Some super-wacked-out-creative-imaginative-funky people doing insane stuff. My brother likes to work in computer graphics (10 yrs now) http://rhythm.com because of all the wonderful artists he gets to work with. Got an Oscar this year too. Way to go Eric! http://people.tribe.net/b2c9ca... - Mitchell Tsai
I truly do live for this kind of thing. Awesome! - Noah Carter
This is old, but it seems like a pretty good list of guidelines. It's a little funny that "TV in the bedroom" gets its own special mention, but I guess it can be more serious than I would think (I tend to not watch any TV on my own for long stretches of time, but a TV in the bedroom doesn't bend me out of shape. TV in the kids' bedrooms might be a different matter, though. I don't really approve of that. PCs, maybe, but not plain TV.) - Kamilah Gill
We have a tv in the bedroom, but it is rarely on and does not work very well. - RAPatton
I'd say TV in general is a good topic, that along with sex, children, religion, and meat. :) - Todd Jordan
Well, still, RAP, don't you think several of these are worth consideration and many people don't consider them, and it leads to all sorts of mayhem and pain? I'm atheist and something religious like that Pre-Cana you mentioned does bug me at first glance. However, there might be some use to thinking this way. Since you're married, do you feel like many of these things apply to you (or, if you'd rather not disclose that, do feel like most married people you know are better off when these kinds of questions are in agreement?) - Kamilah Gill
Kamilah - being a Christian, I'm glad my wife and I discussed our beliefs before marriage. I'd encourage folks to do that regardless of their particular religious beliefs to avoid surprises later in marriage. Likewise about sex. If the couple hasn't already had a regular sex life, talking about how often and some other details might be a show stopper later. - Todd Jordan
Honestly, if spirituality is not discussed within the first signs of the relationship becoming serious, you are asking for heartache. - Michael W. May
Todd, glad it sounds like you were open-minded about sex in particular. That's one of the things I've found especially off-putting about many religious traditions, the suppression of what I consider to be normal sexual behavior. I think a lot of that causes ripple effects of harm to society. - Kamilah Gill
i think it's a good list myself. I mean, definitely there will maybe be one or two not applicable to every couple, but... - edythe
Can you tolerate a weirdo for the rest of your life? Even if he teases you about your hair in the morning? What if he giggles at his own farts? Can you deal with non-stop dorky high-octane nerdiness? - Tad, TV's Patrick Duffy
an interesting read, especially 28 days after getting married. i was nervous to click through, but it looks like we'll be ok... - Trent Olson
Reflecting on our almost 13 year history, I think if we'd discussed some of these things before we got married in a very serious and formal manner it would have just made us both miserable and maybe even cast doubt on us getting married. I suppose we're lucky that things worked out and we're as compatible as we are, but we don't really have the same priorities/goals for a lot of the things on that list. Maybe the ones that we DO jive on are the most important (at least for our situation). - Lindsay Donaghe
Poor, poor Akiva - the bananaphone is a must listen! :P And may God have mercy on your soul. - Tad, TV's Patrick Duffy
I've come along this far without having heard it. Now it's like an endurance test of avoidance. - Akiva Moskovitz
There are some choice lines in this article: "A notorious no-show, who has cancelled more gigs than she’s played in the past year, the once curvy, self-described “Jewish princess” with the big black voice has shrunk into a stick-thin directory of the demons lying in wait for the careless or careworn young – and not so young – of either sex." - Jason Toney
and "The real sadness is that, unlike Britney Spears, Pete Doherty and many other marginally talented celebrity wasters, Winehouse doesn’t need to work the sleaze angle to get attention." Ouch. - Jason Toney
"I know I've mentioned it eleventy million times before but let me mention just one more time that my birthday is this weekend. I'm mentioning it one more time because I'm asking you to help me celebrate." - edythe

Polly/Edythe -- I'm thinking it's not your* birthday being referenced here but, just in case it is, or even if it isn't happy birthday anyway! - Robert Seidman
hee. i should have made this more clear. it is not my birthday. it is Michelle Jones' birthday. :D - edythe
