The camel spider stories began to spread during the 1990-91 Gulf War. Now, with the continued presence of U.S. forces in the Middle East, the stories are becoming legendary .. Many of the stories on the internet are completely untrue. These creatures are (usually) not dangerous to humans. But, dangerous or not, these creatures are horrifying to encounter. I pity anyone who encounters one for the first time. They actually aren't spiders at all, they're solpugids.. Along with spiders, they are members of the class Arachnida. - Cee Bee

HP Mini 1000 netbook confirmed
October 27 at 10:27 pm - via Bookmarklet - Link
"The sequel to HP’s Mini-Note 2133 netbook has shown up on the company’s online store. Called the HP Mini 1000, the netbook measures less than 1-inch thick and weighs from 2.25lbs; it also has a new, black casing and appears to be intended as a more entry-level machine than the 2133. The new price certainly bears that out: the HP Mini 1000 netbook costs from just $399. Other specifications for the Mini 1000 are unknown, with the primary point of interest being its CPU. HP went with VIA’s C7-M processor for the Mini-Note 2133, a choice which pretty much singled it out among other netbooks; there are contrasting rumors now as to whether the HP Mini 1000 will instead use Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom processor or stick with VIAand adopt the new Nano chipset. It’s also believed to have a 10-inch screen. HP confirmed back in Julythat they were working on a new netbook with a lower purchase price than the 2133. Their first netbook, though relatively well received in reviews, was criticised for its cost compared to ASU - Cee Bee via Bookmarklet

It's too bad, I just went to check it out, and just like everything else that's too good to be true, as soon as you start adding on the basic upgrades you are well over 500$ and even higher if you want this thing to work for you. The base model alone is 399$, but that's with only 512MB Memory, 8.9" display, and and 8GB HDD :-( - cmiper

“Loved The Dark Knight”
August 10 at 10:46 am - Link
Didn't like it - felt it was extremely overrated, I was actually bored for the last 30 minutes. The Joker was fantastic though. - Steve Isaacs
Overall, liked the movie, could have done without Maggie Gyllenhal and Batman's voice. Was surprised at how modern and current the backgrounds were in this one. Batman Forever had darker imagery. Really liked the Joker and Two Face. - Mike Cornell
Exposing the darker sides of human nature (to the extreme) = All sorts of win! - Mona N.
Yes- it actually lived up to the hype. Brilliantly cast down to the cameos. Thoughtful script. Great camera movement. Agree about Bale's voice though - he wasn't that raspy in the first one, was he? (Still, he's a fairly brilliant actor.) - Abby Martin
I refused to see it because I was already sick of it before it even came out... - heather ♥s fauns on mars.
There was too much going on, plot wise. It needed to slow itself down, especially initially. The movie should have been split into 2 stories. There was very little down time, so the constant frenetic energy became tiresome ad wearing and the plot twists became predicable. The Joker was incredible and all I wanted was more plot and more screen time with him. - JoEllen
Loved it. Only sore point - Batman's voice - Kamath ॐ
I thought it was excellent. Story, acting and action was all top notch. I, however, do understand the complaints about Batman's voice. It was overdone. - Parvez Halim
Ooh, Kamath, you're right. His voice was way too much. Adjust your Pro Tools, peoples. - Derrick
I loved the Joker plot and the Bat-Pod motorcycle. Everything else was kind of lame. Batman's voice was annoying. Did like Bruce Wayne dissing Harvey Dent, because I didn't like Harvey Dent/Two-Face. We were disappointed in the parts of the story that didn't have to do with the Joker that we never ended up going to see the movie again in the IMAX theatre, which we really should have done. - Cheryl Jones
Let me move on to the next obvious question - The Dark Knight or Iron Man? - Kamath ॐ
IRON MAN!!!! - JoEllen
Iron Man. Dark Knight was good, but it wasn't all that. - Scott Kitchen
+++++(JoEllen, Scott) - Kamath ॐ
LOVED both Iron Man and Dark Knight for different reasons. But what about Hellboy 2????????? - Abby Martin
HB2 wasn't in the theaters long enough for me to see it, darn it! - Scott Kitchen
Kirk: Indeed. - Steven Perez
Iron Man. - Steve Isaacs
Liked it, but way to overrated - Tamara J.
bite your tongue, Tam ;) - सत्याग्रह {Bren}
Dark Knight seemed fresh to me. I really liked it. Iron Man was good but juuust not at the same level as DK - m.i.a
Didn't like it nearly as much as Batman Begins either...too dark, not enough ass kicking...plus they blew up the car. - Alex Scoble CISSP
Watched it in IMAX ... amazing - Jαmes Cooρer
IMAX after regular movie theater is a big let down considering so few scenes are actually IMAX. but i loved Heath Ledger and Bale. - Krista K
I'd love Bale reading the phone book but I do agree they overdid the voice. Still, Ledger, Eckhardt and Oldman were also all wonderful. - Abby Martin

MSI Wind U120 with integrated 3.5G in November, next generation Wind in March - Engadget
October 20 at 5:03 am - via Bookmarklet - Link
We already knew that MSI's Wind U120 was coming this quarter. Now DigiTimes has pegged the launch to November. Available in white or black, DigiTimes' sources claim that the U120 should launch for roughly $552 with a built-in 3.5G data module, Atom N270 proc, 1GB memory, and a 120GB hard disk loaded with Windows XP. For its part, MSI did say that it will not be introducing a netbook with touchscreen due to the high cost (eh hem, hear that ASUS?). MSI does, however, plan to launch its second generation Wind netbook with "new innovations" at the beginning of March at CeBIT 2009. We're hoping for thought-control enabled by a quantum processor but expecting something more akin to a race to the bottom. - Parvez Halim via Bookmarklet

Rahul, I have had some success as I'm very persistent. I reply to all orkut scraps in Facebook and force them to check it out inside Fb! Not sure about FF though as most of them haven't gotten their head around twitter even. - vijay
Mona, maybe you are targeted 'cause you are very popular? I have quite a few friends on there along with a ton of my clients but they(and I) love it! FF rules tho. - vijay
lol, the US is the only place on the planet where MySpace is the most popular :-) - Duncan Riley
vijay: Orkut? I haven't logged in since 2004 and I STILL get friend requests LOL As for FB, my biggest gripe is how they keep adding features and overloading the UI with Ajax, hence causing my browsers to crash! @Duncan: At this point, I'm thinking of going BACK to Myspace since it's more customizable than FB! - Mona N.
I was talking about Fb, don't use orkut anymore :} And I switched to Fb initally for the UI! Google Chrome, Win XP, no probs. Anyway my point is that out of the choices for those in India, Fb is the best choice. - vijay

I sometimes dream of a world, where FB, Orkut, Myspace could work seamlessly with each other sharing contacts and interesting data. - Karthick R

Worst Invention Ever: Sleep Mask With Billboard
October 19 at 3:06 am - via Reshare - Link
We've accomplished many an hour of restful, mugger-prone napping on the subway, but there's always the danger of missing your stop -- a problem we're usually too drowsy to consider at 2am in the morning. Not clever hacker Pyocotan, however. This resourceful fellow has built the Noriko-san sleeping mask for fashion-forward commuters, which broadcasts your destination to fellow passengers on a garish LED display, while you're busy getting some shut-eye underneath the mask -- in the hope that they'll be kind enough to wake you up at the right stop after they've rid you of your iPod and wallet. With a cost of $200 in parts, and considerable impracticality to boot, this device isn't quite ready for the commercial sphere, but that's of little concern to Pyocotan -- he's just busy being awesome. - Parvez Halim
