The Magic Folder (v2.0) - The Magic Folder is a gadget that helps you categorize and move files. When you drag a file to the gadget it will look at the file extension and place Document files (like doc, xls, ppt, etc) in the Document folder. It places image files like (JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF, etc) into the Pictures folder - Stefano via Bookmarklet

I recommend it. Great for wiping your disks clean short of the NSA/CIA/DoD needing to get at your data. At that point, you likely have a number of other issues to contend with. - Stephen Pierzchala

"Use the Meraki Wall Plug to cover large indoor areas with unparalleled speed. Simply plug it in to existing wall outlets to expand your network." - Paul Buchheit via Bookmarklet
Have you heard of Open-Mesh? [edit: http://dailywireless.org/2008/... ] They also offer a wallplug. http://open-mesh.com/store/ - John Lam
I have a Belkin wireless repeater which is not as stylish, but works pretty well. Sometimes it can be a bit of a pain to get it to find the router if there was a power outage. I believe it was about $50, instead of the $179 Meraki wants. But after looking at open-mesh, that looks even better. Thanks for the info John. - Robert Felty
Rob, who's to say that the Meraki wouldn't have similar trouble? - Gabe
Meraki is not a simple repeater -- it forms a mesh using any number of nodes and gateways. They're mostly targeted towards apartment buildings, towns, and other medium sized installations. Gabe, they specifically mention a hardware watchdog to deal with power glitch induced problems. - Paul Buchheit
@Paul - but is Meraki better than open-mesh? - Robert Felty
I don't know anything about open-mesh Rob, but the Meraki team is really sharp, so I would bet that they are better. - Paul Buchheit
Meraki and Open-Mesh use the same Accton hardware, but Open-Mesh uses opensource software based upon the same OpenWRT platform. See http://DailyWireless.org/2008/... I posted the wrong link earlier. - John Lam
It's really weird but they don't explain what it does on that page. It's as if you're supposed to already understand. What does it do? Now -- if my life depended on it, here's what I would guess that it does. 1. You have to buy two, no point buying just one. 2. You plug one of them close to your wireless router, plug the other one as far away as you like but on the same electric circuit. Now you'll have a strong wifi signal near the second one too. 3. Repeat as long as you're on the same circuit. - Dave Winer
Now if that's what it does, what do they do (if anything) about older houses (like mine) with many circuits? I found I couldn't use similar technology (if it is similar) because of that problem. They really ought to explain the product not just the problem. In the end I just hired a contractor to put in wire, it was reasonably priced (actually not much more than the boxes) and works really well and is faster than wifi. - Dave Winer
Dave, in the time you took to complain, you could have clicked the “Spec” tab on the page Paul posted. Both Meraki and Open-Mesh make a mesh WiFi router based upon older MIT RoofNet principles. For 25 years, i think, i've read your commentary and articles. Please don't get lazy on me! - John Lam

Obama Can't Win Against Palin - WSJ.com
September 11 at 12:39 pm - via Bookmarklet - Link
"In Mrs. Palin, Mr. Obama faces a political phenomenon who has altered the election's dynamics. Americans have rarely seen someone who immediately connects with large numbers of voters at such a visceral level. Mrs. Palin may be the first vice presidential candidate since Lyndon B. Johnson to change an election's outcome. If Mr. Obama keeps attacking her, the odds of Gov. Palin becoming Vice President Palin increase significantly." - Russellreno via Bookmarklet

Agreed. The Democrats lose the election if it becomes about Sarah Palin, rather than the economy, Iraq, energy, education, and constitutional freedoms. - Chris Baskind

Should've pointed out that the piece was by Karl Rove. 'Nuff said. - steplow = Steve Lowe
This viewpoint, even if it was written by Karl Rove, resonates with me. - Robert Scoble
Holy crap. Karl Rove can make up his own reality and spread it via WSJ. Squillions of businessfolks are going to read this and remember it and tell their friends. I'm glad WSJ puts in the sidebar and footnote that reveal Rove's political leanings. - Daniel J. Pritchett
But he's right. Palin cannot become the subject of this election. The subject is that GOP junta has run the country like a banana republic for eight years, and now says the next four would be different if we return them to the White House. - Chris Baskind
I agree Robert - the campaign has completely changed, she may be president in 4 years, keep that in mind - Jason Kintzler

OK, lets here some discussion about issues from the candidates now. - Jeff P. Henderson
Jeff, you wouldn't think it, the way he's been going after her specifically. - Mark Jaquith via twhirl
I'm not going to honor Karl Rove by responding line by line to his drivel. Either party can write articles like that, they never give a full picture. Maybe it just comes down to values for me, ie., I don't share hers, although perhaps the Undecideds do. - Marko Bon
Consider the source. Karl Rove. Obama hasn't been going after Palin. Rove wants him to. - Mark Logan via twhirl
I can't believe I just wasted my time reading this propaganda. I further can't believe the Wall Street Journal chose to publish it. - Carlton Northern
It's evident that Palin was selected to counter Obama. GOP musta figured folks might not vote for McCain, but they will vote for Palin. Definitlely cynical. Possibly successful. - MikeAmundsen
I agree with Rove on this. Obama just needs to stay clear of Palin. - Russellreno
It is interesting to see how peoples views are clouded by preconceived political ideas. - Zach Scott
I'm not surprised that the WSJ printed it. They are just catering to their customers, most of whom are conservative. - Alex Scoble CISSP
@Zach Your preconceived notions about people's views is interesting. - Mattb4rd
WSJ = Ruport Murdoch = Fox News = Karl Rove's Boss - Darrell Bell via twhirl
Dinosaur girl? - Steve Chou
Enough is enough! Less political garbage - more debate on issues. I'll start - do you believe in trickle down economics? - AJ Kohn
yep, Palin is the 'red meat' for Dems. Palin is cast as the 'victim' that the left-wing media abuses, that the liberals denegrate, and the democrats don't understand. great story for running a campaign. and the Dems have a hard time keeping away from it. like others said, Palin is not the election issue. the GOP/McCain is. any press on Palin is press *not* covering GOP/McCain. Dems need to figure out how to make her a non-issue. - MikeAmundsen
@alex It's obviously just an opinion piece. Don't be too scared of opinion. :) - Mattb4rd
Karl Rove should talk about failure of Bush Admin instead of Obama - imran
It's funny how an inexperienced Democrat can be a "change agent" but an inexperienced Republican is a "bad Disney movie". :| - John Denver
You're right @AlexScoble, Yes We Can! - Paula Moore
No, it's a fact that trickle down economics hasn't worked for the bulk of Americans. It results in the rich getting richer at a faster rate than anyone else. It doesn't pull us up all equally. - Alex Scoble CISSP
"I hate him, therefore he's wrong" is a logical fallacy. Democrats ignore Karl Rove at their peril; he is an absolute political genius. A stinking, slimy weasel, but a political genius nonetheless. - Glen Campbell
it's true, if this becomes about Palin, we Dems are screwed. But Obama and Biden *have* been talking about issues. The Repubs can't win on issues, so they take random quotes out of context and try to refocus it on Palin. Look at what they did with "lipstick on a pig." The media is complicit in this. - Victor Ganata
I think Rove makes some good points here. The question is, why is he giving free advice to the enemy? My thought: he's trying to reverse psychologize the Obama ticket into taking on Palin. It's win-win for him; if they take his advice, he can claim victory, if they don't McCain might win. - John via twhirl
@AlexScoble, is it a fact? I credit much of the economic boom of the '90s to Reagan's economic policies. Reagan let the rich keep their money and, no, it didn't do much for everyone else at the time. However, there were no good investment opportunities in the '80s, so the rich horded their cash. Then, when the WWW (and other technology-related industries) took off in the '90s, the rich invested and everyone else benefited. - J. McConnell
Good thing that Obama and Biden are totally doing the grassroots thing. The media generally fails to provide substantive coverage of what they're doing, and what they're doing is really resonating with a lot of people. Anecdotally, everyone I know is voting for Obama, and i'm in freakin' San Diego, certainly one of the most conservative cities in the country. People really aren't as stupid as the Republicans and the media want you to believe. When you're getting screwed hard enough, you pay attention. - Victor Ganata
The thing I find most interesting is that Karl Rove once helped determine policy from the inside the Bush Administration. Now Mr. Rove works in media now. He gets to help to form and shape public opinion now. The WSJ and Fox News are his platforms for doing so. Am I the only one that finds scary? He has managed to cover all of the bases for promoting his school of thought. - Darrell Bell via twhirl
They've got Palin doing all the PR gigs, have hardly seen McCain in the past week. The Democrats need to (and I want them to) play smart. - Chris Dahl
Yeah, those reps aren't as stupid as we thought, eh? Of course it was the only viable opportunity and seems to be working. so far. - Alex von Halem via twhirl
Tagged both this debate and the story with Delicious. - Roberto Bonini
I agree with Alex on trickle down economics. The gap between rich and poor is wider than ever, in part because of this practice. And at it base you need to think about it this way. If you were to give WalMart a tax-break, would they increase employee wages? - AJ Kohn
Alex, have you ever considered that the rich may be rich because they are smarter and make good decisions? Stupid broke people, if given a lot of money, will soon be broke again. "Life is hard. It's harder when you're stupid" - John Wayne - Mattb4rd
But...um...he's NOT running against Palin. Are the mass electorate really that stupid? - Steve
LOL that's laughable Matt...there are plenty of stupid people with money. You don't necessarily need intelligence to make money. To think that you do is laughable, just as it's laughable to assume that you need intelligence to get a degree. If our problem with poverty was as easy as that it would have been fixed long ago. - Alex Scoble CISSP
The hype usually wears off 30 days after the convention. - Bob
@AJ Kohn, I'm not disagreeing that trickle down economics might not work, I'm wondering aloud if it should be considered a "fact" that it doesn't work. In your example, I don't think it's fair to ask if Walmart would increase employee wages if given a task break. The fair question is, given a tax break, would Walmart invest that money in a way that benefits the many more than if the government had taken it in taxes? - J. McConnell
Alex: Laugh this off too, if you will: Socialism has failed every time is has been tried. - Mattb4rd
What I'm looking for isn't socialism. - Alex Scoble CISSP
A rose by any other name... - Mattb4rd
I dunno, Europe seems to be doing OK, doesn't it? I mean, they're currency is certainly stronger than ours is right now. - Victor Ganata
I think Rove may be wrong on two points here. First, Obama hasn't been devoting significant time on attacks on Palin. Second, the contention that Palin is popular may not be true. Her negative poll numbers are higher than her positives. Her appeal may prove to be narrow and short-lived. - Mark Logan

"The original version of the Eye-Fi memory card let you transfer pictures from your camera to your computer over Wi-Fi, but Eye-Fi’s latest offering really takes you places. The Eye-Fi Explore is a 2GB Secure Digital memory card that adds one year of Wi-Fi hotspot access, unlimited access to Eye-Fi’s WebShare service and the ability to automatically tag your photos with their geographic location, otherwise known as geo-tagging. So if you are looking for a one stop solution for photography storage and geo-tagging, there’s no other solution available like this one." -- $129 - Cee Bee via Bookmarklet
I've always liked this technology but it doesn't support the RAW file format which is a deal killer for me. - Thomas Hawk
Oh damn, I didn't know that Thomas. This is still a really cool idea, but they need to support that format or professional photogs (like you) won't touch it. For the standard point-and-shoot users I can see the value, though. - Haggis (Sean)
I recently got one for my Nikon DSLR and love it. I normally take 'Fine JPEG' format pics so I'm not too concerned about the RAW limitations. I also like the fact it uploads to Smugmug. - Jonathon
I want one of these for xmas. - Tad, better than boredom
@Thomas, Does the card not support the RAW format or the Eye-Fi uploading services and geo-tagging? - Wizetux
Do they make a CF version with Raw if not they are leaving out a large part of the market. I don't see someone with a point and shoot putting another 130 into a 300 dollar camera. - Zach Scott
Well, I can see the problem with the service supporting RAW because there is no real standard of RAW format. So they would have to support the Nikon, Canon, Sony, and Pantax (along with any new forming companies) RAW formats which is a hard thing to keep up with as a business. - Wizetux
I'll keep using CF+RAW. The benefit of using Lightroom is more important to me than quick uploads and geotagging. - Jason Wehmhoener
maybe the alternative is for it to do DNG? with a CF - Zach Scott

I have DirecTV too, but waiting until late 2009 to get a Tivo? Come on now. I agree with Ed. If I need a PVR I'm getting a Media Center. - Robert Scoble
I've been hearing a lot of people switching to Media Center. My only beef is that I don't want a cable box. If you own an Xbox 360 Media Center is a nice built in extender, along with Vista. - Ryan
but...I love TiVo... How much for a decent media center? - Josh Haley
TiVo as a stand alone company is dying. PVR's from the same company you get media from are pretty good (Comcast, Fios, DirectTV) and much better integrated. Most folks I knew who had TiVo replaced them by now. - Soulhuntre via twhirl
I don't watch much TV, but a card in my PC does just fine, and acts as a PVR if I want it to. - Ian May
I liek the Fios PVR - add in how well WHS works to stream content to my Xbox360 and I am pretty well sorted on this. Next? I want Hulu on the 360 :) - Soulhuntre via twhirl
I love TiVo. Happy to use it everyday, it's been very good to me. Everytime I see someone else's TiVo rip-off, it somehow falls very short. I can't tell why they cant copy it better, but for some reason they don't. TiVo FTW. - Steve Isaacs
if media center allows you to have comcast without the terrible UI, that could be a good solution. DirectTV customer service is so bad- I need to find a replacement when my contract is up mid next year - Tim Connors via mioNews
I am happy with my TiVo HD and may upgrade the series 1 in the other room to a TiVo HD as well. In fact, I bought TiVo stock on Aug. 26 and sold it today, which more than pays for a new unit plus lifetime service. TiVo can't be beat. - Louis Gray
+1 @Steve Isaacs. I had a phase where I used two EyeTV devices with my Mac mini for my HD DVR needs, and it worked fairly well, especially since I could edit and transcode the files as I wished. However, sometimes the set up would fail because of different reasons, like the software encoder process on one of the tuners couldn't handle weaker signals, or for whatever reason a scheduled recording would be missed. I'm back with a TiVo HD and I love it. Rock solid and doesn't take up my computer. - Cheryl Jones
Of course, Elgato recently updated their EyeTV software to have a Season-Pass-like option, and other TiVo-like features, so they might be a good alternative for those not wanting to go with TiVo and are on OS X. I'm sticking to my TiVo for now. - Cheryl Jones
TiVo works best for our household...partly because we can't afford to shell out the big bucks for a Media Center PC...(I know, if I saved my TiVo fees for the next 2 years or so, I could afford one...but then, what would I do in the meantime? Watch commercials? I don't think so.) +1 @Steve Isaacs...Tivo FTW...seriously. - Sean McGee
@Sean McGee - does your cable provider offer a PVR? The are usually relaly cheap as an incremental upgrade. Best of both options. - Soulhuntre
I like my (non-DirectTV) TiVo because unlike the majority of PVRs it doesn't lock me in to a single TV provider. - Kevin Fox
@Soulhuntre: Well, a few months ago, we downgraded to "Basic" cable (20 channels) when we were having financial difficulties...they downgraded our bill, but never put the filter on...so, we're getting Expanded Cable (80 channels) for 12 bucks a month...Now that we can probably afford Digital, I'm reluctant to ruin the "good thing" we've had going for the last 6 months or so... - Sean McGee
Yeah, I won't buy a Tivo. The Verizon FiOS DVR is pretty good, although it does have limited storage (only 180GB). - Alex Scoble CISSP
Media Center is one Microsoft product I love...can't live without it - Jeff Douglass
I've brought up the idea of going with a non-Tivo DVR, but the look on Athena's face made me rethink it. Tivo has been such a wonderful part of our lives since our first (version 1) box (that now lives in my father-in-law's living room). I really like DirecTV and hate Comcast. So, my only real option is to wait until the end of 2009 for the new DirecTivo. - Cyrus Lendvay
Comcast with TIVO HD DVR is pretty awesome. 16 gig broadband, plus $299 dvr. Only limit is no Comcast On Demand. Cable cards don't have 2way working yet. - Keith Teare via feedalizr
i could never own a tv. i don't like the way my brain feels while watching it. and the ads don't add to my life, they only steal time. - Gregory Lent
@Gregory I broadly agree with you, and particularly find the medical ads trying to turn me into a hypocondriac very annoying. Thing is, very few people complain, and yet many folks online want ad-free free services, and go out of their way to block ads (which you can't do with live TV). - Ian May
I ditched my Tivo in favor of the built in recorder in my Dish Network box. I'm perfectly happy and saving money too. - David Jacobs

No, it would be seen as it is now - a confusing, overly manipulative one. - Steve Isaacs
I think there would be a lot of Obama fanboys defending him if he had. - Lindsey
Obama hired himself someone more experienced than himself. McCain hired someone with far less experience than himself. I know what I think of bosses who hire that way. I usually try to get away, and fast. - Robert Scoble

Elections are rarely about fanboys, the hard base (though with this pick, it is becoming so). It's about the grey area voters. - Michael W. May via twhirl
Uh, no. Because on the issues that matter they differ almost 100%. - AJ Kohn
I agree Michael, I was just agreeing with the OP. I do think ultimately though he would have went down in flames the way McCain is. - Lindsey

yes it would have been hailed as bold new choice, a new directoion outside of typical washington especially by the same people who are posting such negative posts about palin now. - Jonathan Jesse
I think a better analogy would be if he had selected Deval Patrick, first term governor of MA. Patrick had no prior political experience when he was elected. And they are philosophical soul mates after all. That choice would have had the Obamatrons shouting 'forward thinking, original, fresh' yadda yadda yadda. - Peter Simard

ooohhhhh . . . Obamatrons. I'll have to remember that :) And yes . . . i'm a democrat. - Lindsey
The same problem with Palin would still exist and the issues that picking Biden were meant to solve would still exist. Besides there are plenty of women in the Republican Party that were far more qualified. Came with far better credentials. - Paul via twhirl
If Obama had picked a VP who was a Christian fundamentalist, a creationist, a book banner, a secessionist, someone with an unmarried pregnant teenage daughter, and someone who thought the Iraq War was a holy mission ordained by God, everyone would have thought he had lost his mind. Is everyone here fully aware of just how crazy Sarah Palin's beliefs are? - Sean McBride
+1 Sean - Lindsey
I love the smell of Republican desperation in the morning.... All these terrified posters and politicians are freaking. Gigs up boys and girls. Bye bye bye... - Brad Nickel
Sean: you seem to think that Sarah's beliefs are out of touch with much of America. I guarantee you they are NOT. To lots of people in America she is just like them. We aren't going to win this one by calling them all crazy. That'll just encourage them. - Robert Scoble
No, it wouldn't. - steplow = Steve Lowe
Robert, the war is joined. The Republicans' only chance is a religious war and that began with the Palin pick and last night. It will get bloody. They are cornered. Also, a majority of Americans support progressive values, we just have to make sure they get off their asses and vote. - Brad Nickel
What I can't figure out: why would anyone who supports religious censorship, book banning, oppressive theocracy and similar policies advocated by Sarah Palin and her fellow fundy cult members be attracted to Friendfeed and the Internet? - Sean McBride
Sean, I would assume that Ontario's question assume that Obama would pick the liberal/progressive equivilent to Palin. Which is why I think basic criticism that is beng applied to Palin would still be their as well as the criticisms that are already there of Obama. - Paul via twhirl
Sean: there are plenty of fundamentalist Christians here. They might not self identify, but they are here. Back to my Berlin experience, many of those who did the same thing in Germany were educated. Who burned the books in Berlin? College students. - Robert Scoble
Robert -- to pick just one issue: a large majority of Americans think the Iraq War was a huge mistake. They don't believe it was a holy mission ordained by God. Once they realize what Sarah Palin has really said, and what she really thinks about a host of issues, they are going to be appalled. Most Americans don't share the beliefs of religious fundamentalists and extremists who hate basic American values as defined in the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. - Sean McBride
Also, it says something of Obama's judgment that he *didn't* select a leftist mirror-image of Palin. - steplow = Steve Lowe
+1 Sean. I am really trying not to engage in political kerfuffle on the social webs but Palin is nuts. - Marci Maleski
Robert: if there are religious fundamentalists here on Friendfeed, apparently they don't have the guts to defend their beliefs in fair and open debate. They must be stealth fundies. In any case, my bet is that most Americans will back away from Sarah Palin once they realize just how extreme her beliefs are. - Sean McBride
If he had passed over Hillary Clinton (the way McCain passed over Kay Bailey Hutchison, Condi Rice, Olympia Snow, and more) to pick a woman so vastly inferior as a candidate, there is NO WAY either side would have seen it as a bold choice. They would have thought he'd lost his marbles. - Cheryl Rice
Cheryl Rice you hit the nail right on the head! - Paul via twhirl
I'm probably what you would call a religious fundamentalist, or at least a social conservative, and I do have the guts to defend my beliefs in fair and open debate, but I don't really feel like wasting my time. I'm not likely to change many minds, or my own, and I just don't feel like its worth saying much about this election. It's all a lot of hot air anyway. I doubt much is going to change because no one has sufficient majority in congress or enough of a mandate from the general populace. - Justin Long
I will say that while I appreciate many of her views I do wish McCain had picked someone with a bit more experience. On the other hand, doesn't she have more executive experience than Biden, McCain OR Obama? - Justin Long
no - guy via twhirl
Justin, She was the mayor of a town of about 9000, Alaska if were a county in the U.S. would be the 86th largest. Shes been governor for about a year and a half. If your were looking for executive experience Condi Rice or Christine Todd Whitman would have have filled that bill far better. - Paul via twhirl
Left leaning people are going to say no to this. Right leaning people are going to say yes to this. Nice litmus test! - Mike L
Justin Long: You are a creationist? You believe in censoring books that disagree with your religious views? You believe that the Iraq War was a holy mission ordained by God? You want to throw out the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights? - Sean McBride
selecting somebody under investigation for corruption is always bold. but it's a poor choice, no matter who picked her. - eric mortensen
And if he wanted to make a bold choice with executive experience he could gone Carly Fiorina. - Paul via twhirl
@Paul: You're missing one bit of experience that Palin has that Fiorina lacks: Palin has won elections. Palin has won elections BIG. The attacks on Palin demonstrate that the Obama campaign is scared of her. - Rob Sterling
@Brian Sullivan - Was Methuselah an option? - leigh himel
@Sean: Can you point me to material that shows Palin's book banning and Iraq War is a holy mission ordained by God? Both are truly frightening and if this is her viewpoint I'll be even more disappointed than I already am. - AJ Kohn
AJ -- if you do a search on my feed for "palin," pointers to the Iraq War and book banning material should turn up near the top of the results. Let me know if you have trouble finding the links, and I will repost them in this thread. - Sean McBride
Seeing them both. I want to know more about the specific books she wanted banned. Though pressuring the librarian to quit if she didn't fully support shows further evidence of her abuse of power. There's a good chance it's from this list: http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/ban... - AJ Kohn
AJ - I would love to see the specific books too. What's not in dispute: she has a proven history of abusing power for questionable reasons. The "God" rhetoric with regard to the Iraq War fits the George W. Bush template to a tee. - Sean McBride
Better question: did Obama consider anyone who only had less than 2 years of holding a major office? - Dan Ciruli
To all - impressive response! - Ontario Emperor
Peter Simard - I agree that Deval Patrick would have been a better comparison. - Ontario Emperor
Sean, Robert, et al - don't assume that censorship is confined to the far right. There are many people who are not of the far right that would prefer that certain words be removed from the public conversation. Agreed? - Ontario Emperor
Similarly with book banning. Movements to ban books are free of political limitations. This point was made forcefully to me in a graduation address (not mine) given by a Samuel Clemens professor of literature. - Ontario Emperor
Ontario -- Sarah Palin threatened to fire a librarian as part of a campaign to ban books that she found offensive to her religious sensibilities. Perhaps some Democrats have engaged in similar activities, and who have reached the level of being a VP nominee. Can you name any? I can't. Face it: religious fundamentalists and extremists have taken over the Republican Party and destroyed it. - Sean McBride
Sean, I was going to note Al Gore's ties to the PMRC, but that was a bipartisan effort, not just confined to the Democrats. Also, this was private censorship rather than government-imposed censorship, which is pretty much the same thing, but still different. I explore this in my recent post at the http://mrontemp.blogspot.com/2... URL, which also looks at this thread, the Risley thingie, Jesse Jackson, and Michael Scanlon. I'm allowed to observe; I went to Mulhouse. - Ontario Emperor
Ontario - The PMRC called not for censorship of books at libraries (especially odious), but for putting warning labels on albums with adult language (not a policy I support). http://tinyurl.com/gt9hk Not censorship - big difference. There really is no equivalent to Sarah Palin on the left. - Sean McBride
Ontario -- interesting essay on your blog, which I just read. Generally I am a free speech absolutist. But I certainly respect those who speak out and condemn hate speech, especially genocidal hate speech. Should private groups have a right to organize boycotts against practitioners of hate speech? Probably. But answering hate speech with reasonable speech is much more effective than any kind of censorship, in my opinion. Robert Scoble is certainly free to block anyone he chooses for whatever reason -- that doesn't remotely approach censorship. - Sean McBride

first DSLR to shoot video and geotag that I'm aware of. - Thomas Hawk
The Amazon link is a bait/switch, it's for an N90 (35mm camera) not the D90. ;-) - cmiper
grrrr.. is that right cmiper? it said they had one left. I'll have to try to search for it someplace else. - Thomas Hawk
Regardless of your brand... this means all sorts of win for the consumer :) - Johnny Worthington
@Thomas - They do have a listing for D90, it's atleast 100$ less then the cost quoted in your blog post (for version with Kit) and less than 1000$ for non-kit body only version. - Yuvi (has IRL friends!)
ok, looks like the price is actually $999.95 on Amazon, but that it is out of stock. I fixed that link. I'll go check over to see if there are any available at B&H. - Thomas Hawk
hmm. B&H isn't showing a listing for the D90 yet. I guess it will probably be a few days before these start showing up for sale. - Thomas Hawk
John, you are absolutely right. This is a huge win for the consumer, video and geotagging now raises a new bar. I will be very interested in what Canon brings to the table with the new 5D likely to be announced at photokina next month. - Thomas Hawk
Also, I'm wondering how GPS will work when you want to use another flash in the hotshoe (the GPS addon plugs in to the hotshoe) - Yuvi (has IRL friends!)
Ok, the Nikon Press release confirms the $999.95 price point:
