Now I'm wondering should I get this or stick to Transmission? - Outsanity
get it, Outsanity. take it from a windows fanboy who's been using it for years, it kicks ass. - Mohomed=genieyclo
I'll be trying it out but will continue to use Transmission until 1.0 - Brandon Titus
my flatmate got barred from using the internet for the last 36 hours because a company sent our web provider an email saying he was illegally sharing the firms product via torrent. Watch out! - Zach Landes
Well, that has nothing to do with the client you use (or even torrents themselves) but with what you choose to download and seed. - Akiva Moskovitz
When will the linux version come out. Hating Deluge these days. Likes rtorrent. - Srinivasan R
Waiting for linux version, but this is AWESOME! - k00pa
Meh. Transmission has the advantage. - Rick Powell
Azureus/Vuze is java based and runs great on Mac. But I agree micro is micro. - Mihai Tarmure
Not sure why this is so amazing when Transmission has been available for the Mac for quite a while. Native too! - Glenn Batuyong
@Mihai, I used to use Azureus on the Mac, but when they switched to being Vuze, I looked for an alternative. It was far to big and klunky and hard to figure out. I found Transmission and haven't looked back. - Joey Gibson
Vuze is in constant change and the has a lot of power under the hood. Feature wise is among the most advanced clients out there. I agree, for the regular user this says nothing and I accept, because is Java based it tends to eat more resources. I havent had bad experiences with micro torrent on PC and I always recommend it to novice torrent users. The fact that its available for mac is only good news for everyone. - Mihai Tarmure
@Joey Transmission is nice. Too bad some trackers will ban you for using it. Not sure why, but when they put it in their rules not to use it or else, it doesn't give too much latitude for me. Besides, I like the way Vuze looks. I have to agree with @mihai, it is one of the best bittorrent clients out there. - R. Alexander Spoerer
This is really neat. I hope they release it to the App Store, I would definitely use it. - Costa Walcott

Mattie, hmmm...other than the desktop thing, it does not keep you tied to all-knowing Google, something which a paranoid nut like me feels happy about. Perhaps, this post can probably explain it better. http://tinyurl.com/2vrjaa - JazJaz

I stay with Google Reader. There is no advantage. Have to agree with Mitch and Mattie. - Ryo

Flock Browser is far superior or if not I will agree wit Greader, Friendfeed and Twhirl :) - Ian Cleasby
via twhirl
One really good reason to use a desktop reader is that some of them can monitor pages that don't have a feed and alert you to any changes. Essential feature for keeping ALL of your software up to date. Additionally, there are feeds you can't subscribe to in Google Reader, because they require authentication, and unfortunately that's not something Google Reader supports. - April Russo
I like Google Reader too, but I am an administrator on 3 forums and have to subscribe to feeds for the admin boards, and that requires a reader that can accept a username & pass to log me in to access the nonpublic feeds. I also like having popup notification when new posts are made on these forums, so I can quickly delete spam within 30 seconds of it being posted. - April Russo
feedly is messy. google reader has toomany limitations and is visually all screwed up. i don't understand why newsgator doesn't make an rss reader similar to netnewswire. feeddemon isn't horrible, but it could be so much better. netnewswire is probably the best i've tried and continue to use. only for mac, but the best thing is that it's free. - Cee Bee
Cee Bee: Is there a specific part of feedly you find messy? - Edwin Khodabakchian
Excuse my novice-ship, but one condition I enjoy about feedly is that it allows me to both upload to my twitter and my friendfeed accounts, almost simultaneously, and the luxury of sharing it with other g-friends. Now, if feeddemon can do all of this, I'm sold.Sold I tells ya!! - Terence Washington
edwin -- i have over 600 subscriptions and found it a bit of a nuisance to navigate in the small space on feedly as well as view other people's shares. this goes the same for google -- it tries to fit too much into one space (notes, shares, suggestions, options, etc) whereas with a stand alone program like netnewswire, i can have all the options, settings and other gadgets for different functions not only in a separate tool bar, but menu as well leaving the dedicated rss reader to do what it does best - Cee Bee
cee bee - thanks for the feedback. I will pass that to the design team. - Edwin Khodabakchian
used to use that when I didnt have a Mac , it is a good one - johnpiercy

Just started using this yesterday, and I'm convinced. I LOVE this app. - Flora
via twhirl
Unfortunately I think any app has to be benchmarked against Google Reader. If not, it's nothing more than an RSS scraper. - Glenn Batuyong
have been using this when a) i had to pay for it and b) google reader did not exist. and still love it. if only for sentimental reasons .... - denise
I don't think I'll ever use a desktop RSS reader. I need my reader to be in the cloud b/c I read from 3 workstations. I love Google reader esp w/ sharing. - tsudohnimh
@tsudohnimh FeedDemon can synchronize feeds across multiple computers too. And you can also share items just like you do with Google Reader. Trouble is, not many people know about these features. FD can be customized to provide an uncluttered, aesthetic interface to read your feeds. - JazJaz
@JazJaz ty for the info. Does it also provide a web interface for reading feeds? - tsudohnimh
amber, actually it's supported by openwrt and ddwrt. it would be great if it weren't for the ridiculous price. - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
I have been looking at this one for some time: http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-D... Only $95. I kinda like the look of that Linksys one though, it's like some kind of spaceship. - Karin Dalziel
DIR-655 is a ubicom chipset and will not be supported by openwrt or dd-wrt. waste of money - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
fwiw this particular linksys is not worth more than the airport extreme is. - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
thats what the crudcustard was about, the price - Amber aka SDA
as Karin said it really looks like a spaceship.. ahem.. 500$!?? It's definitely too much - Lushano Perera
I have a Dlink DIR-625 and love it...much more reliable than my Linksys WRT54G ever was. And DDWRT was even more unreliable than the base Linksys firmware. Oh and the base Dlink software does pretty much everything that DDWRT does. - Alex Scoble CISSP
alex, DIR-625 is not gigabit and also doesn't seem to have a fast enough CPU to handle a USB hard drive at full USB transfer rates. looks like drobo is a better idea for myself. - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
I like wireless routers with lots of antennae. They look like the future. - Slippy Lane
Shouldn't networking equipment be coming down in price? - Bjorn Stromberg
it is coming down in price bjorn, a router with 2 USB2.0 ports, gigabit Ethernet, draft N, and 2.5GHz in addition to 2.4GHz was not legal to sell in the US until recently when they added 2.5GHz to the public spectrum... - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
I am not buying it, though. I already have a WRT54G running openwrt and an IPv6 tunnel, connected to a gigabit Ethernet switch. - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
I have a Linksys WRT54G myself. Quite good, but range is pathetic. Granted then I only use it for my iPhone and working from the couch. The rest of the network is Gigabit. Worth the investement, gigabit is. - Roberto Bonini
$500?! that's outrageous. what are the cheaper gigabit + 802.11n alternatives supported by openwrt / ddwrt or tomato? - Berk D. Demir
should allow you to boost TX power a little and also is a lot more stable than the usual firmware - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
Suprised to hear anything negative about DD-WRT firmware. I've installed it on >50 WRT-54g/gs and it works like a charm. In addition, the added features over stock Linksys firmware is awesome and in MY experience MORE reliable. Not defending the WRT600N. When I spend money, I want the bulk of what I pay to go towards the primary functionality of the device I'm purchasing and not added frills. For example, I wouldn't buy a laser printer with built-in wi-fi. I'd put $400 towards a nice laser and $30 towards a little wireless bridge and plug it into the laser's ethernet port. That way I get more printer for the money and saved a little over buying an over-priced mediocre printer w/ wi-fi capability. So in this case, I'd buy a decent N router and a nice cheap NAS or build my own. Though this will come down into the $225 range in less than a year anyway. - Dr. Apps
via twhirl
dr.apps - the 600N is supported by ddwrt, hence the only reason why I would consider it - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
I spent roughly the same on my Gigabit network. Thats for, what, 20x the throughput? - Roberto Bonini
roberto - my 5port gigE switch was $20 and my WRT54G was $20 (I've tested the gigE with 5 ports at nearly the theoretical max (1488000 is max, I think it was something like 1480000 even, not bad for a POS ;) ); I was looking for something like this to replace all that equipment PLUS I was going to do RAID-1 of two USB enclosures but it looks like the money is better spent in a drobo. - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
WRT610N is $144.90. much cheaper than this but I guess it only has 1 USB. bleh. - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
That price is wrong. It must be an error on sku import. - qthrul

Now that he's won, we can say it. Obama is elite, if not elitist, and after 8 years with Doofy McCommonMan as the President, I'm glad for it. - Jason Carreira
I thought people understood that owning a Mac doesn't make one elitist. If so, I must be elitist times 4 (I intend to get rid of two of the Macs, honest!). Uh...nm, I get that it was a joke, now. - MiɳiMagɘ (AlwaysMiniMage)

it is indeed a good product. i'm using it for a year now. - jeffrey
Even without the coupon, the 50mm f/1.8 is a bargain - Aaron B. Hockley
I *love* this lens! Superb value for money, and vastly better than the kit lens that comes with the 400/450D. The results, even at low light, are stunning. There's also a very active group on Flickr for fans/users for this lens, too: http://flickr.com/groups/canon... - Andrew Terry
The 50mm f1.8 Nikon lens is a also superb and a bargain. - Brian Sullivan
Multiple Languages is a feature in Leopard most people don’t know about. Having access to this is great but it can be rather tedious to switch your spellchecker back and forth between multiple languages. It would be even better if it worked on Chrome, and if it could sync with browsers on other computers. - Charles LePage
Visual bookmarks? That just doesn't appeal to me. I have a huge list of bookmarks organized in nested folders. I need to be able to see a large list quickly. No synching seals the deal on this. Cool idea, great for some, not for me. - tsudohnimh
Can someone explain what Mesh does? I have MobileMe. What does Mesh do that MobileMe doesn't? - Paul Grav
Paul - Mesh and MobileMe are pretty different. Mesh, in its current state, is basically a backup and synchronization solution that automatically keeps a copy of your files in the cloud. Besides that, it is also Microsoft's cloud computing platform for consumers that developers can create applications for. But that's not quite there yet - for now, it's basically an easy way to get to your data from anywhere. - Frederic
Can set it up to sync folders automatically, access files on another machine through the net easily, free cloud storage, remote desktop. Cross platform. - Rodfather
I've found DropBox to be more reliable that Mesh, personally. Plus, dropbox has a Linux client, so all your bases are covered. I'm also not a big fan of the Live Desktop compared to Dropbox's very simple, efficient web interface. - Jason Huebel
That's true. But for $5/mo you can upgrade Dropbox to 50GB. - Jason Huebel
adrive.com has a service with 50gb for free. No where near as handy as either mesh or dropbox. I like dropbox and mesh. I waver back and forth. I am a helpless flip-flopper - James Herbert

sorry - but no microsoft crap on my mac - never ever!! - Dieter Schwarz
@Dieter and @Zee, You guys are so confident that microsoft can never come out with something useful/harmless?! :) - Karthick R
you know what, not really Karthick...more like i don't think that Microsoft can come out with anything slick, simple & feels really good to use - Zee.
Zee - in this case, Mesh is pretty slick, simple and feels great to use. It's not really a backup tool. I use it for the small amount of data that I reallly want available to me everywhere I go (all my machines, plus mobile and from the web). That's very much a subset but Mesh seamlessly makes sure it's always available and up to date. On top of that, the remote control functionality is coming along nicely, giving me a secure means to control the 'Kitchen' laptop (downloads) from wherever I am. - mattpovey
I love dropbox, I was unimpressed with Mesh. Plus as MS has to be dragged kicking and screaming into supporting the Mac, and it'll be a cold day in hell before they ever support linux, I'll stick with dropbox. - Eric P
I'm pretty meh on mesh. It's a solid idea implemented poorly. For example, try running it on a Vista x64 machine and watch any hardware accelerated graphics (including video rendering) slow to a crawl. While it's more than just a file sync utility, that's really all it's good for at this stage in the game, and frankly Dropbox does a better job of it. - Evan Sims
@Zee, gotya! However dismissing a product before giving it a try, doesn't sound great in my head. May be you are right / wrong. But I feel that when it comes to microsoft we have build these stereotypes in our head that becomes hard to breakaway from with time. - Karthick R
You can think of Shop It To Me as your free personal online shopper. I wish it didn't require installing a plugin though. I'm sure there's a good reason for it but without it working out of the box I doubt I'll ever be able to use it to chat with certain people (my Grandparents use Gmail but I don't think they'd know how to install this). - Benjamin Golub

Benjamin, you're right. And if you have to install something, why not just make it a standalone program? Like an update to the Google Talk client? My mum and sister both use Google Talk but they've never used the web interface of Gmail because they know how to use Outlook Express already. - Tony Ruscoe
Side-note: When you have Google Update installed as Firefox plugin, then clicking Google's installation button won't trigger a security dialog, but just start the installation. - Philipp Lenssen
@Evan If libpurple can get this implemented, you could just use Pidgin. - Erica Baker
A plugin? Reminds me of the original Google video. Why don't you use flash Keith? - Paul Buchheit
Tony: Updating Google Talk leaves all the Mac users out. Now if I could just get a free VNC client or something that punched through firewalls well on Macs I could install this for my parents now instead of next time I see them. - Brett Cannon
